Looks like Tennessee Coach Vitello will be suspended for the first two games of the Florida series. Tennessee baseball: Vitello suspended, will miss part of Florida series - Rocky Top Talk
Im not sure if this was related or when it happened, but apparently Macias didnt approve of the fur coat..lol Josh Elander(current acting HC) comments “That was a weird one. I just asked him, ‘You know, hey, we’ve been doing this all year.’ He just said, ‘Not on the field.’ “At first he said, ‘No coat,’ and then it was, ‘Not on the field.’”
Augie Garrido, retired HC from Texas, has been quoted more than once from events that have taken place on the field to his players “Act like you’ve been there before”…… Class is as class does.
OH - and please - if any UT player hits a dinger and stands there and shows up our pitcher ----- the next batter gets a fastball to the ribs. PLEASE. This game used to police itself.
There's never a time to purposely hit a batter. Next thing you know one of the good guy takes one. Just follow up the next inning with bat flip to match.
Punish the retaliation and look the other way on the instigator only strengthens a repeat performance so the cycle continues. Yes, I’m an ol’school pitcher—you take me yard and hustle your ass around the bases, I’ll tip my cap and get you next time. You make it a circus from home plate to first base and you’re damn straight you’ll hear from me next time around. Act like you have been there before.
SOS never physically accosted anyone. His act was planned, he used to practice his one liners on his wife. Vitello also got a tongue lashing from Van Horne (his old boss who allegedly liked him no less) last year and his assistants had to get him away. SOS never had that either. Vitello doesn’t have self control, he will ultimately make one too many mistakes and get in real trouble. But as long as he’s winning like he is now, he is safe, winning cures all.
No SOS did not make contact with any officials. He sure as heck blew spitel in the face of a few while screaming his head off and throwing his visor. SOS zingers were planned and contrived. His in-game sideline behavior was no different than Vitello.
Show me the last baseball coach that got suspended four games in the SEC for contact with an UMP, or the last time SOS got suspended for anything, let alone physical contact with someone. Or the last time he got into a public altercation with one of his assistants past or present. So like I said, we will see in a few years where he stands. He’s a great coach to this point by any measure, but the coaching world is littered with great coaches who couldn’t control their impulses either on or off the field and got shown the door, including a bunch of great ones. If he doesn’t grow up he will eventually find his way to that list. If UT fans are too excited with finally being good at baseball to see it, so be it. End of topic for me.
Who gives a ship what Van Horn said to Vitello or vice versa. I don't condone Vitello's behavior. Quite the contrary. He deserved the suspicion. Vitello's style and methods bothers most because he's kicking arse and taking names. No different than SOS.
