Steele gambles on us once again:

A year ago, my No. 1 surprise team was Florida, but the Gators suspended nine key players before the
opener against Michigan and never had a chance to fulfill expectations.

    Roulette Chip: Florida Gators
If you walk up to a roulette table and pick just one number, you have a 38-1 shot (37-1 in the big-money rooms with no 00) of having your number come up, so it's a long shot but still a possibility. Auburn was 3-9 in 2012, yet became the first team in recent history to go from a losing record to a national title. Two years ago, I put my chip on Nebraska. Coming off a 5-7 campaign, the Huskers started 7-0 and rose as high as No. 7. This year, I'm taking my chances with Florida. The Gators have a new coach in Dan Mullen who knows how to win in the SEC and are one of the most experienced squads in the country.

With decent qb play and offensive line play I don't doubt it.

Yep. We're kind of the low hanging fruit of 'surprise' pics. No reason we shouldn't be in every game, so then it's a matter of a few timely breaks on the field.

Our roster has plenty of talent

Our O-line SHOULD be as good as it's been in years. Our skill positions (outside of QB) are as good as anyones. Now it's just a matter of coaching them up and them performing on the field.

Our running game should be no worse than #3 in the league.

But will the defense be as good as it has been?

Barring injury issues, it should be a big improvement from last season. Between Grantham's scheme and a bunch of guys with game reps, I'd expect top 20 D. An offense that produces anything beyond the putrid output of last season furthers the cause on D as well.

With Nord Gone as Special Teams Coach that is worth at least 1 game Out Right, 2 TDs, and 3 Blocked Kicks.

    Again, at least 9 Wins.

Regarding Roulette, in Europe, with En Bank, you actually have to lose two almost even bets in a row to lose your bet with red/black, meaning that it's basically a 1.25% House Take, which is very similar to the 1.15% take on Craps in the US. Blackjack can be an even game, but due to the larger playoffs for Blackjacks, you only win around 47.5% of your bets, unlike Craps and European Roulette where you win about 49.4%. People who are foolish enough to bet on single numbers do a lot of Praying.

If Felipe Franks somehow has a *Vulcan mind meld* with Rex Grossman, we win it all!

    Can we make it so?

8-4 is probably our ceiling with Franks IMO.

Good point. We could end up with the offense we hope for but lack defense and STs. Mullen should be good enough to field a complete team.

I Frankly think you're right. I'd like to see Mullen take the team to Jonesville.

Gotta love Phil Steele, no one else can list 10 teams as "surprises" then act smart when a few of them have good years.

But how is he saying we’re going to surprise? What does he think we’re going to do? I feel like we’re the least likely to surprise. We have an easy schedule and some solid athletes, so we should go like 9-3. That wouldn’t be surprising at all. Unless he’s saying we’re going to play for a title which, lol, no we won’t.

It is just so he can say "I told you so." It is easy to predict a program like Florida will "surprise" after winning 4 games. He would probably say a 7-5 season counts as a surprise.
