It’s OK to look at it that way but I’m gonna wish for Coastal to have such a chitty year they don’t even make the field.
That is what I thought but didn't have time to confirm--Thanks!! Then the question becomes what did he trade come selection, time for that suspension? Up 5 lines regardless??? He is on the committee--there used to be benefits with that. Why the suspension?
Was supposed to be a private conversation away from cameras prior to the game starting. His opponents received notice of the game start time change being moved back over an hour the night before. The Gators were not notified at this same time and showed up at the ballpark early and had to sit around and wait. Disrupted all their pregame routines from a timing perspective. Sully had a reason to be angry. Gave the other team a huge advantage. Happened to be home team in this case. One of the NCAA site officials also happened to be the home teams former head baseball coach. Our AD did not support his baseball coach.
Good report on the scene of the crime. One extra NCAA issue, when the team arrived early, they could NOT simply take the field for informal loosening up. NCAA has a specific schedule for team workouts- starting and ending times. I suppose they could play catch in the parking lot, but THAT might not be allowed. That magnifies the impact and inconvenience of the problem. The Gators precisely followed the rules until the moment Sully discovered his team was the only one to do so. I'm not sure if the SoMiss coach knew he had been handed a minor advantage.
I’m gonna go against the grain here and say that it immediately stopped being private as soon as Sully directed his tirade at ECU before the game. If that didn’t happen then I doubt Schnall brings attention to it in his press conference. This would have just been tossed aside like any other incident where coaches and NCAA staff butt heads.
I just watched a video of Saban on the Bama sidelines going off on his guys for lack of effort and not being where they were supposed to be. 7 distinctive F-bombs. NO SUSPENSION. And I must add a superb job of coaching…
I am getting sick of "woke" being a bad thing here. Mostly because the mods think that way. And many other posters.
As a moderator, I will say, we have to not go political on the baseball board, and "woke" is that kind of "too hot" word. I'm more than happy to discuss the usage of woke in person or over on Too Hot, but let's leave it out of this board. Not just for you, Lurk, but for @ocalaman and 74 as well (and anybody else I may have missed). By the time most of you see this, we'll be 160 days away from our first game. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Lotta things are based on perception, no one saw anything concrete in terms of changed times and whatnot. That combined with the Coastal Carolina coach doing his thing set the tone. It's different when Saban chewed out a kid who made a mental mistake. To your point a Bama kid got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against FSU and Deboer didn't blow up, bad for the team to not send a message. For a decent example only a few hot take idiots like Desmond Howard (who shouldn't be taken seriously) had an issue with Jim Mcelwain chewing out Kelvin Taylor for the throat slash and 15 yard penalty in a close game. Kelvin's own dad Gator legend Fred Taylor had no issue with it. No love for Mcelwain but it was the right move after a selfish action. Massive part of being a coach is knowing when to use the stick (yelling) and when to use the carrot (calm disappointment acknowledging players can do better).
I have it from an inside source that Sully’s suspension is solely the work of Strickland. The NCAA has nothing to do with it.
It's Scott Stricklin. But I have ZERO faith in our AD. He's a fund raiser who is terrible in hiring coaches and doesn't have his coaches backs, IMO. Sully overreacted, but he was justified in his complaints and our AD should have had his back. He didn't. I'm for Sully, and wish our AD would go away.
