Ultimately it comes down to winning games. If Miami was winning the ACC and making the playoffs regularly, recruits would be going there. Recruits see them as a middle-of-the-pack ACC team with terrible attendance that loses to Virginia, Duke, Boston College etc. Why go there when you can go to schools that are regularly in the playoffs (i.e. Bama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma etc.).

College ball is interesting to watch over time. Very rare for a program to stay on top forever. USC west, Oklahoma, Clemson, ND and Bama all have had lengthy down periods. Nebraska has been down for many years, but may have been top program in 70s and 80s. FSU had sustained success for many years, but was terrible in the 70s and early to mid 80s. Some programs simply lack the facilities or athletic budget to compete today. Retaining coaches is much more difficult than in the past. Someone will always pay more. A Head Coach could leave and the program can suffer, if you make a poor coaching hire. Early departures for the NFL and injuries to key players can create unanticipated depth challenges difficult to overcome. Still very few programs have won a BCS championship since creation. Winning more than one is even rarer, which is why Bama turns away players other programs would die for. Once Saban retires, that will change. Bama record between Bear Bryant, Stallings and Saban wasn’t always rosy

For consistency, it starts at the top - administration needs quality in charge and boosters have to be in line.

With a decent coach and adequate facilities, I think any program in a region that produces talent can be resurrected. Historically good and could return are Miami and usc. Historically not good and may be good one day are the Mississippi schools. Historically good but now dead programs are Tennessee and Nebraska.

The Tennessee situation is jaw dropping. How can u continually fk up hiring process. Main diff between uf and ut are recruiting advantages. The only thing that holds that program back besides natural recruiting advantages is coaching and they seem to shoot themselves in the foot. It’s comical if not down right sad.

UPDATE: I was told UM knew or expected Stephenson to go UGA. They were not expecting Haselwood either. However Bogle indicated he was choosing da U.

CMR leaving will not matter. Diaz will try and resurrect the program but this class is like probation. It is void of top talent and full of holes.

Fedora is rumored as the next OC. That will help next year but you have to wonder how long he may be around. There is also speculation that Seider reached out to Diaz. I have not been able to confirm or deny that one.

Regardless, the U will be irrelevent for maybe forever in the world of CFB. A mid tier program that is fading fast. There are problems from the top down and the Powers that be, are not fans of the FB program.

I’ve always taken my goal cues from spurrier. It’s always to win east and play and win in atlanta. Everything beyond that sorts itself out if you’ve achieved your goals. SOS would almost never even speak to anything beyond atlanta until it was pertinent

Latest Update: As I posted a few post back Fedora was rumored to be the next OC. Fedora either turned down the job, had too many demands or Diaz was blowing smoke. Why? It's not that big of a deal. My guy down there is OOC so I can't ask what happened.

Looks like they got a bit of win down there, Bubba Bolden seems to have chosen them to transfer to. T Martin seems to be the name of the day for OC.

IMHO, Fedora is way too good of an OC to settle for UM.

Martell, Bolden, and current scum tight end all played at same HS in Vegas.
Weird that martell is already conceding qb position to fields though.
