Timeliness? I'm going to disagree on that

    Perhaps.
    Thanks for sharing.
It’s difficult to compare subcultures when there is certainly overlap and nuance. I would think that you came off a bit defensive in your anecdote. I could be wrong, but maybe it’s because my OP came off presumptuous.

Did you read that segment? Not timeliness as in time efficient, it referred to respecting others time I believe.

    This is a great story.

I am not pointing fingers at anyone when I say this, but my biggest problem with “southern values” is with those who practice those “values” selectively and hypocritically. They’ll be kind and decent to those whose lifestyle, appearance and/or religion is acceptable. That’s not “decent” and “respectful” in my world.

Not rhetorical, but why does maga always profess to be a victim?

Being a victim provides them the footing to fight.

Honest answer. I don’t know what maga is or means. I can surmise that you believe all cons are trump followers or something.

It was published in 1941, I only read it/became aware of it because I concentrated on Southern US history in school

The other thing that hits me when I visit a place with all that Southern Hospitality, is I feel socially adrift at times.

By that I mean, because everyone is nice and smiles and talks to you - it's more difficult to discern true feelings. I'm not suggesting smiles and kindness are a bad thing. In some ways I find it refreshing (that was my childhood afterall), but in the NE you know where you stand with a person. Likewise, one doesn't have to put energy into making every stranger feel like a friend. I still do more times than not. Habits are hard to break

My mother and father were Democrats and I was raised with those values. They are not endemic to one region or group of people. They are universal among people who respect one another.

Wonder who wrote it? Lol. Hate filled liberals who were very happy to take land from the South.

My wife says the same thing. She says it can be a lot of work to be around folks who are ostensibly always happy. It can come off inauthentic.
I like it because it’s mostly what I know.
