Florida's beaches are one of the primary reasons people enjoy living in the state ( I had to re-write that sentence due to my use of 'we' and 'our'. Something I can't say anymore as I am no longer a Florida resident). The beaches, for those who love them, are not only places of fun and recreation, but are places of refuge and renewal. Sitting on the beach, gazing at the endless waves and listening to the steady unending rhythm is a place I would want to be if I still lived within a reasonable distance.

I see nothing wrong with re-opening the beaches to those who need the soul healing properties they can provide. Sit on the beach, jump the waves if you are inclined. Declare your thanks for the life you are living and affirm your life by enjoying it however you can. We are reasonable and educated people. We know the risks we face in putting ourselves in close proximity to strangers. I think the re-opening of the beaches is a good thing and permissible to individuals, couples, or small family units. Large groups should be discouraged and scattered for those too foolish to realize the inherent danger of large gatherings.

I hope it wasn't "too" packed.

That's not good. The real problem is that young people like to gather in groups when they go to the beach. One hot spot was Austin TX after several students had been together on the beach in Mexico. Sunlight is no match for stupidity.

They are limiting people in the stores here in Colorado but the decision to do so is made by the store's management.

I've noticed that each chain has different standards. The local chain is a bit lax, Target is stricter, Trader Joe's is the strictest of all. I had to wait 20 minutes to get in yesterday.

Did you happen to see a video of what the police did in Brazil to drive people off the beaches there? Watch to the end to see the who was sitting in the open door to place an emphasis point on the operation.

Bill, we don't want this to become an overheated potato Too Hot to handle. It might be better to post this "next door" in that overheated establishment across the Plaza where some of our neighbors like to argue.

drone video I saw from msm showed that Jax Bch was not overcrowded at all. Beaches are a hot topic with me because I used to have 45 miles of beach to drive until I found a nice place far enough away from anyone. Since the late 80s the govt has closed 30 miles and they close the rest at every high tide chance they get. They forced people into crowds, with packed parking lots, people can't carry everything far enough to get away from the noise.
Open the beach, let people spread out. That will solve the problem of crowds and lifeguard trucks driving over sunbathing tourists who were not even near the 'traffic lane'.

How funny that mainstream media is calling out mainstream media!

"Jacksonville made national headlines Friday for the partial reopening of beaches. Unfortunately, many of those reports carried old photos and videos of crowded beaches causing many in the U.S. to ask, 'what's going on down there?' Here's drone video of what Jacksonville Beach looked like Friday evening."

Here's what Jacksonville Beach looked like during partial 'reopening' Friday

I saw that and if, in fact, old photos and videos were used to make it look like Friday's beaches were packed ... that's pretty awful. And hard to believe. But ... check out this video from News4Jax. It shows a pretty crowded beach matching the photos the national media reflected.
