They've been far from lovely in north Georgia and south Alabama where I've lived. Dumber than dirt and violent maybe, but not lovely. For the most part. There are exceptions obviously.

Ahh I suppose their violence just scares the shit out of those polite and respectful NY snowbirds that ruled the streets with their kind and gentle hands. ab59e4a11cfa2f719e5273d30a2d17f4.jpg

Times change. Although, come to think of it they were pretty violent in the south even earlier than that with all those lynchings. Nice guys those old time southern gentlemen.

This happens all the time. I'm not sure why it would seem unusual or illogical. Coaches continue to actively recruit kids they have little to no chance in getting because you're never just recruiting one player--you're recruiting families, HS staffs, programs, and areas. Polk is a big small county that regularly produces a lot of talent, LHS in particular. My sons play in Polk County and people absolutely know each other and talk. I'm assuming there's a greater than 0% chance Bowman might still flip, so you invest the dinner visit in the 5* talent that makes yet another positive impression on that family but also the rest of the kids in the area that Mullen recruits hard and until the very end. This is how long term relationships and reputations are made. Considering how fashionable it's been on this board to criticize Mullen's recruiting reputation and results, there is very little downside and potentially long term benefits to this one late recruiting dinner.

Maybe they can get dad to sign the LOI and circumnavigate mom who's on the take with CU.

You got to admire the confidence and effort even if it ends badly.
