Pretty girl. In her latest Instagram picture she is wearing a Gator uniform. She can see the handwriting on the wall and wants a trip to Oklahoma City.
In looking at her individual game stats she struggled against quality competition last season. Seems to be great against lesser teams.
Another board (not Oklahoma's) is reporting that Canady is going to go to Oklahoma on an NIL deal that's well into 6 figures. Not confirmed, of course.
Don't shoot the messenger but I did a deep dive into her games against Michigan State, UK, Charlotte, Hofstra (I'll explain that), UNC, Duke, and Charlotte. In those games she threw 24.2 innings, gave up 33 hits, 21 runs, 17 earned runs, struck out 17, walked 10 and hit 3 batters. Her ERA was 4.82. Wilmington played UGA in the regionals but they pitched someone else. She didn't throw in that game. I included Hofstra because FSU just picked up their best pitcher, Julia Apsel, in the portal. They played two games. Hammock threw 7.2 innings, gave up 9 hits, 7 runs and 4 earned runs. Apsel threw 11 innings, gave up 8 hits and 1 earned run.
So maybe just another Wooten role type player? An experienced player who can come in and throw strikes, settle the team down and give you a chance to figure out how to move forward? It can be an important role for a smaller, younger pitching staff.
I think she is more than Wooten and the previous to her. She has much more experience. Was very good against lesser teams and struggled against better teams as the numbers show.
She definitely adds experience and will provide a change of pace for a couple of innings. Just gives the team more depth and not having 1 or 2 pitchers being worked to death. I honestly think Rothrock, Brown and Miller will all be better next year and this will also give Oxley time to develop and mature before being thrown into the fire right away like Keagan and Ava were.
With the Gators, Kara will have a defense, an offense and a great coaching staff behind her that she didn’t have on her previous team. I believe we will see a really good improvement in her numbers. I do believe she’s going to be a role player. I think with the staff that we have, Keagan, Liv, Ava and Red, we just need a role type pitcher. The other four need to develop on schedule. If we had gotten a stud pitcher last year, the freshmen would not have progressed as well as they did. Welcome to Gator Country, Kara!
One other comment regarding the Apsel/Hammock situation. FSU is hurting in the circle and needs a transfer that can come in and be a consistent producer. We aren't in that situation with already having four pitchers (counting Red Oxley). FSU has to hope their transfer from a low level league can be a very good pitcher game after game. That's not our need or the likely role for Hammock. I would add....boy is our situation in the circle vastly different than it was last year at the same time.
saw her a few times last year, she pitches to contact. Had a terrible slow defense behind her. I see her as a 3/4 pitcher that can really eat some innings in lesser games and blowouts and occasionally starting. She did not get top notch coaching either, it was just about competent. Canady we should be touting ourselves as the Stanford of the south, just like we are the Harvard of the south. She may have to dumb herself down to go to "class" at Oklahoma
Agree - No ace pitcher is going to come to Florida with what we already have on staff, unless it's a very unique situation where an elite pitcher just wants to be part of the Gator program and fits in with the type of player Coach Walton is looking for. FSU needed an ace or at least a pitcher or two who can hold up against Top 25 competition.
