that certainly seems to be a very odd statement to make. of course they would be unaware as Management would never reveal that hand at this time. it also is consistent with, as I recall, Napier getting 5 years guaranteed from UF. He recognized what a shit-show he was stepping into and knew it was not going to be quick or easy.
Georgia played a total of 1 team in the top 30 and got 24 points with an amazing OL. Thry struggled too. Until we have an amazing OL, I am not reading much into our offensive points totals (scheme and skill players) against top defensive teams.
We can’t block a stunt up the middle either An 4th down anal letics can kiss my grits. What does the chart for teams with bad OL say. Sideways! Go Gators Spring is coming!
you do one or two things - have wider splits, putting the tackles further away and the edge rusher ends up further away. (You could also chip block with a TE or RB which we rarely did). Spreading the defense out - including running more 4 wide- also leaves less defenders in the box that can blitz and confuse the OL. but most common - you utilize the quick game/zero step drop and throw immediately out to WR. We did this occasionally but not often. Teams with far less talent at O line than Florida are able to do things on offense to defend against edge rushers - just watch our d line vs Charlotte or McNeese.
Problem with our tackles is once you get their feet moving they are easy to knock over because they don’t have balance for shit
Right, but way too often we hear the defense is awful. And while that’s true the offense was not nearly as good as some say. And yes, some do say that. Our offense was an issue and overall average scored per game is very skewed/different when looking at games against decent to good teams.
A good question you ask “ is scoring less against the top defences a UF or football thing”? Did you mean against top defenses?
Agree 100% it’s just that sometimes people look at our per game average with points and looks like we ended up pretty decent but not so fast when you look at four or five games when we played decent to good teams.
20 against Georgia was probly better than average. Our line was bad and the rest of the offense was probably way above average. But with a bad line, that’s what you get.
I plug the 1 meter hole, simplest fix. I fire whoever created the 2 meter hole cause it should never be that big. Then the 3 meter hole I do whatever I can with what I got to keep it from sinking the ship.
I think you are right, I think he wanted to hire a top OC but there is no doubt BN is indeed on the hot seat and I doubt a top notch OC wants to risk getting into that mess. However, he had told our star qb that he will be calling plays. So, who really knows what's going on? My concern as has been expressed is beyond the first scripted series, the O kind of disappears especially against quality teams. Very little game adjustments in second half, and very poor game management with a 2 minute offense. You can't win in this league playing close to the vest.
