New Florida Gators secondary coach Will Harris brings a wealth of experience despite his youth (36). / Doug Engle/Gainesville Sun / USA TODAY By: Terrance Biggs -- July 20, 2024 For all of Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier's flaws and faults, you cannot argue with his open mind when hiring younger coaches. In a sport where many coaches will trend older in spots, Napier chooses innovation rather than recycling. Will Harris, despite being just 36, sports a lengthy, decorated career as an assistant. New Florida Gators Secondary Coach Will Harris Brings a New Attitude
Ball Hawks... That's a term I haven't heard mentioned by our secondaries coaches in quite some time. Will Harris has the perfect blend of youth and experience that makes him perfectly suited to deal with these young minds we have in the secondary. For too long we had those passive wait and see type coaches leading our secondary and the strategy that lends itself to that dreaded bend-but-don't-break, passive... weak defense that allows for other teams to score almost at will. I like what Will Harris brings to the Gators, and we even have a proven player from his system to show our young guys how it's done in Asa Turner. He's like having another secondary coach in the back end of the defense. Over all... I hear all the right things from various writers on Will Harris and the way he coaches up his defensive backfield. I just hope one off season is enough to wash the stench of that last coaching staff out of the minds of our defense. Harris with the new position coaches have a chance to make history with the Gators, and I can't wait to see it proven out on game-day.
