Nope. Also while he was a player manager.
This is the guy that they are unbanning.

believe he always bet the reds to win, would overmanage, play players who were hurt or needed a day off, over worked starting and relief pitching to win

There's also the whole thing where he banged a 14 year old when he was in his 30's.

Has anyone asked Pete if he cares one way or another now that he’s dead and gone?

Its disgusting, but this stuff wasn't or isn't keeping anyone out of the hall of fame, it was the gambling. To paraphrase the HBO Rose documentary, there are plenty of pieces of shit in the hall of fame. Drunks, racists, wife beaters, statutory rapists, you name it ...

I don’t care for the decision. He bet on games as a player and manager. It’s unbecoming to the sport — at the time and in that era. Some players, although statistically great, need to be left out and held accountable. He should be judged for the rules at the time, not now.

I’m just waiting to see if they’re going wait until Barry Bonds passes away until they vote him in.

If MLB was creative, they could have a home run derby with Canseco, McGwire, Sosa and Bonds ... winner gets in the hall

With Roger Clemens pitching to them. I’d definitely watch.

Still taboo for players to bet on the game; what may not be as taboo is sharing information which (subjective) does not violate the integrity of the game. If players are paid to share information, that doesn't taint game information or play, it taints the gambling odds (potentially). Gambling was never going to be able to remain separated from sports, there's always going to need to be a line drawn and a constant battle to keep responsible parties (especially players and umpires/refs) from crossing that line.

Here's a question for you. How does a players' strike impact the "integrity of the game?" I would argue that going on strike and having games get canceled is far more damaging than any gambling that Pete Rose did as a player.

He was also illiterate if memory serves. That's why his autograph is worth so much, he was embarrassed that he couldn't write so he didn't do that many.

Sure, but you have to judge people by the standards of their times, and you were allowed to kill people back then just for looking at you funny
