Mullen was known for this at MSU

Players know it here as well.

In competitive environment you need meritocracy. The obvious is you need to put your best foot forward to win. But doesn’t this kill development? Why should a freshman bust his tail if it doesn’t matter?

Note how Lingard says it “sucks”

Yeah, he needs to be more like SOS... Football is a "what have you done for me lately" sport... Hidden injuries of our starters are the position coaches duty to find out and adjust for.

One player at a stacked position used the word "sucks" in a tweet! Clearly our staff does not know how to manage personnel! Panic!

It has been reported by many, including at MSU, that Mullen uses seniority over talent/production to determine PT

    Franks over Trask
    Marco over anyone
    EJ over AR
    Delance over anyone

Now is Lingard better than Pierce? I’d say no. But the point is Lingard doesn’t know whether he is benched because a player is superior or because of loyalty. THAT is a problem

C'mon. He knows damn well why he's behind the guys playing... And it isn't because of seniority.

if one posts it you know others are thinking it. I highly doubt he's alone in his feeling.

Franks and Trask were in the same class. No seniority issue there.

Its not just an age thing. It’s an experience thing. Once Dan has a pecking order he simply won’t change it

This hurts in recruiting too, because a in coming player knows that he isn't going to play not matter how much better he is than a existing player.

I think you can take that both ways. Having to earn every rep sure seems like a valid approach. What I'd like to hear from you is what you've seen from him that makes you think he's better than the guys above him. I haven't seen it. Please enlighten me.

Coaches need to keep that locker room together. Sounds like it could turn bad quickly.

I can kind of see why he would do it but the players aren't taking it anymore, particularly with the transfer portal.

I would guess that if Mullen is playing the seniority game, he is banking on a kid not showing he is a star player and then he gets him to stay until his senior year. Its a risky attitude.

Clearly our staff have trouble managing personnel, that's a fact. I'm not talking about LL, though.

Said it over and over. Every job on the staff and the team needs to be up for grabs every day of every week. If u wanna coax complacency, send the vibe that talent won’t win out for pt regardless. Urb and Carroll were known for this. 06 Percy might’ve never seen the field under these circumstances

Well, there is a point to seniority as well--it rewards folks for sticking around.

Not saying it should be the highest virtue and valued over performance (meritocracy), but it does have its place/value.

    fwiw.

Im fine with it being a tiebreaker even though mathematically you’d be better off with the young guy in case of a tie.
