Conference refs should be banned altogether. No need to have separate conference refs anymore. Also, is there something else to this? Permanent ban? Was he on the take and it was discovered?
The ACC has a spot for him as a crew lead referee. Signed: Jack Childress * first assignment will be a Nov 29th game. Location to be determined.
Challenge is when there’s money involved (especially Vegas money), there will always be “influences” in sports.
If you’re gonna ban him, then you need to ban them all. If not, then make questionable penalties reviewable…
It’s interesting they held the head referee accountable, but not a peep about Kirby’s “TO” call. They just fined Texas A&M for faking an injury, but it seems Kirby faking a TO is totally acceptable.
Some of us called for this that night! https://www.gatorcountry.com/swampgas/threads/kirby-just-cheated-live-on-tv.648033/
The Big 10 instituted replay to review turnovers, touchdowns, etc. the very next season (2004). The main reason was because of some questionable calls in a prior Michigan-Michigan State game. The SEC followed in 2005. I can't help but think that the egregious officiating in that 2003 game against FSU was part of the impetus to bring replay to all of college football.
I finally like Josh Pate. Apparently he recorded this just after it went down? I think before firing and stuff. He laid it out.
I have been waiting decades for a day like this. The next one needs to be publicly flogged. Bring in the 2004 UF-Tennessee crew to give them their well deserved punishment.
