Glad he finally got chit canned, never liked his smugness.

    Archie is available. :D

Arizona basketball coach Sean Miller out after 12 seasons with the Wildcats

“The Wildcats are one of several programs awaiting rulings from the IARP, which is an independent body created in 2019 to adjudicate complicated NCAA infractions cases. The IARP has yet to make a ruling of any sort as it also handles cases involving LSU, Kansas, NC State, Memphis and Louisville, among others.”

Will Wade should be next, should’ve already happened, but won’t, LSU pathetically has no problem with his blatant cheating.

Doing the right thing? The four allegations the NCAA is alleging Arizona Basketball did comes down to giving an Australian player $500 to see family, which was self reported, as the player sat out two games and repaid the money back. A transcript issue for a player that ended up eligible at UCLA his freshman year, which again, was self-reported by the school, and ended up with the firing of the assistant coach. And Book Richardson taking $20k in the FBI scandal, which we all agreed happened, and Book served 3 months in a Federal Prison for his crime. The FBI also alleges Book helped fix another transcript for a different player, but there is no evidence of this ever happening, and the NCAA never ruled the player ineligible.

The NCAA filled 20 pages with as much crap as possible against Arizona along with these allegations hoping some of it would stick, Included in these 20 pages are NCAA infractions that date back all the way to the 1960s! If that's not desperation on the part of the NCAA, then what it is?

Meanwhile, nobody has any idea with the IARP will decide as a penalty for any of the schools it is looking at, including Kansas. Perhaps the hammer will come down? Maybe it will only be slap on the wrist like 1-year postseason ban plus probation. If the case is the latter, Arizona would only receive probation, as we served a 1-year, self-imposed ban this year.

Reports from McKale Center today are saying the players are unhappy and feel blindsided. Expect players to enter the portal soon. Which stinks, because next year's team had a lot of potential. Won't likely ever materialize.

But go on believing the ESPN reports that Miller paid Ayton $100,000, despite Schlabach, the reporter, issuing three corrections to his original story as dates never really matched up. Or Miller was going to offer money to other players, that never set foot on Arizona campus, and never faced one minute of NCAA ineligibility, despite being named in the FBI probe. It's what everyone believes, and I guess the court of public opinion is what matters most.

I can take it. And if the IARP/NCAA hammer comes down, I'll deserve to be ripped a new one. But if the punishment is little more than time served plus probation, than Miller will be vindicated, but still out of a job. And the team next year that has real potential to be at least a second weekend Tournament team that implodes because of today's decision will be the team that never was. And Arizona could be looking at becoming the next Indiana, a storied basketball program doing little more than recalling the good old days, as March after March rolls by with little relevance.

The big shocker for me was that Miller had been at UA for 12 years. In my mind Lute Olsen was still coaching that team, like, three years ago.

What did Miller do, specifically, that makes him a scumbag? Trust the wrong people?

Again, the Ayton story is not only unconfirmed, but the author issued three corrections because dates never matched. All other pay for play stories also have no legs. Book took bribe money and went to jail. Does that make Miller guilty by association?

I’m surprised they fired him after publicly backing him but I guess you can’t put a lot of credibility in public statements made by Athletic Directors sometimes.

The timing does blow for the assistants. The portal is fluid enough that the players should be fine.

Kansas and LSU know that the NCAA sucks balls and won’t do crap against certain schools so no reason to fire a coach.

This! That's because they've done nothing. We complain about Coach White but he's MW squared except with a much more embarrassing loss in 1st round of Tournament. His record begs the question why he wasn't fired years ago, regardless of the alleged infractions. I guess he's actually MW-² now that I think about it.

5 PAC-12 titles and 3 Elite eights isn't a bad record at all. And that's after a quick rebuild off a team that had almost no talent returning his first year. It takes some lucky bounces to get to a Final Four, and Miller had nothing but bad luck. An open 3 by a senior that bounced off the rim, a phantom offense foul call, and Wisky player going 5 for 6 from 3, including a desperation heave as the shot clock was going off were the difference between 3 Elite 8s, and 3 potential, Final Fours.

The last three years, the team hasn't been up to Arizona traditional standards. But last year, we were a 7-seed lock, with a chance to improve NCAA seeding if we made a PAC-12 Tournament run. This year, we had a very similar resume as UCLA, and were a bubble team, but self-imposed the post-season ban. Not bad after losing all 5 starters from last year, plus an injury that sidelined the top returner for the last month of the season.

Next year, again, most too-early Top 25s had Arizona around 18, with a chance to climb. Most players returning from last year, with a solid recruiting class coming in. It was Miller's last year on his contract, and he even agreed to coach the team without an extension according to reports. But that would have left the feckless President and his God complex in a tough spot. Can't fire Miller for performance and bring in his pet guy if Arizona had a big year next year. And if the IARP/NCAA violations were a wrist slap, then Miller is at Arizona long-term. So basically, Miller was fired today to avoid him winning too much next year.
