Douglas high is generally considered the best public school in Broward county and is in a somewhat to high affluent area.

Wrong. Stoneman Douglas is a well regarded school, not an alternative school. Mental health issues are pervasive in our society. So is ignoring the signs of mental instability.

Maybe the guy I heard talking had been at another school with him that was for messing up kids before this and I mixed up what he said or the shooter was moved before to another school.

You're correct. It's definitely considered the best public HS in Broward -- maybe even all of South Florida.

Stoneman Douglas is so well regarded that homes in Parkland generally demand about a 10% to 20% premium over similar homes in neighboring Coral Springs.

Yes, seeing our realty office's fence ad getting a whole lot of air time is interesting

    Fox just reported 16 DEAD.

This is a very sad day indeed.

I see school fortresses in our future. Armed teachers or security.

It's not guns, it's lack of respect for life.

Clearly more thoughts and prayers, that seems to be working just fine.

More difficult for those who have mental issues to get guns.

If gun control isn’t the answer than we need to attack this problem differently because whatever we are doing isn’t working.

18 school shootings in 45 days including weekends, holidays and snow days in many parts of the US. And at least 16 kids plus a shooter who aren’t coming home tonight. Youth lost. Families wrecked forever. Why? Indescribable but for the fact we describe it weekly.

There’s a reason this crap doesnt happen anywhere else in the world on the scale that it happens here. Not even close. That is beyond debate. Why can’t we figure it out?

Sometimes you have to swap some freedoms for safety. Like after 9/11. I don’t think the 2A was intended to protect the gun rights of a deranged ex student who pulled a fire alarm in his former school to set a trap and then went target shooting fish in a barrel. That’s hardly the “well regulated militia” Jefferson was describing.

Douglas is a very large school in Broward County. If I just heard correctly on the radio, two are killed and 14 are injured.

Now it's 17 - pray for the families and friends.

    He appears to be wackadoodle.

He was also into bombs - just Immagine?

This is not Guns. This is a heart issue.

Still don't get how an ex student could just walk into a school with an AR15 and extra mags without someone noticing.

Just shows it can happen anywhere, not just inner city schools.

Douglas is a school of over 3000 students in a very upscale neighborhood just south of west Boca Raton . I've been there several times for sports events.

Not sure what the answer is, but this again raises mental health, gun control and school security issues. Politicians talk a lot but don't seem to do anything. 17 dead, more injured.

Guy smuggled an entire arsenal into a las vegas hotel room, and there's probably more "eyeballs" (and cameras) watching a person go into a las vegas hotel vs someone walking into some random high school in Florida.

Hell, back when I went to high school there is no way this would have been stopped. There was only 1 or 2 security guards for the whole campus of 2000+ students and there was no security perimeter at all. I know in recent years, with all the shootings, most high schools now have fencing and control the access in/out with a guard. Wonder if that was the case here, or if he was literally able to just walk onto campus unchecked. The only way to prevent this would have been to stop him from even approaching campus. But realistically, even if there was a security guard, in a situation like this the kid could have just killed the guard before moving into the school. Unless you setup a school with a prison like wall and barbed wire and have tight security at the gate during hours, I don't think you can really keep someone like this out.

That's up to trump and the Republicans right now. They didn't want to let Obama take a shot at fixing it, and they control our government right now, so...

    They alone can fix it.
