lost the doubles point, but won 4 first sets in singles.
So giving it a go.
Dimitrova lost, Berlin won, 2-1 SC.
All other courts competitive.
Down 3-1, all other matches still winnable.
Zein is up 5-1 in the third, Ida just lost a second set tiebreak to go to 3, and Kessler is on serve 3-4 in the third.
Still an uphill climb, but encouraging regardless, win or lose.
Zein won, 3-2 SC,
Ida is up 3-0 in the third, Kessler is at 5-5.
Kessler lost 7-5 in the third, SC won 4-2.
But Ida was up 3-0, couple of small breaks with Kessler and we could have won today. Encouraging.
Exceeded my expectations and generally played well. Kessler serve appears to be breaking down and its really hurting her.
Emma just couldn't win key points.Really came down to those 2 today.
Nice outing for Berlin after Michigan
Attended the match. Exciting, spirited play. Gators were very competitive. Gamecocks were gamers too.
Gators were a couple of pivotal points away from winning this match.
A bit disappointed in Emma’s 2nd set: she got off to a great 2nd...but fizzled a bit to lose it. But she played a very good, competitive player.
Kessler’s serve did seem a bit tentative.
USCe had 2 players that took medical timeouts. They both came back strong. #4 vs Zein won a few games to force a 3rd, but Marlee prevailed.
#1 vs Ida ended up also forcing a 3rd set. Surprised she prevailed in the tiebreaker. I think Ida Forced trying to make her run ...and had several unforced errors.
Emma opponent from South Florida, one of those in-state talents I hate seeing get away. No idea if UF went after her, but she has had a very good collegiate career.
Based on an article announcing her signing by South Carolina, it looks like Mia Horvit trained her Junior and Senior years in High School in New Jersey and Maryland. She was consistently ranked in the top ten in the U.S. on tennisrecruiting.net, with ties to Florida, so she should have been on UF's radar. By the way, Emma Shelton, Bryan Shelton's daughter, will be playing for South Carolina next year.
Yeah, that was the year we brought in Neel, so he may have landed the one elite player had room for in that class.
I saw that on Shelton, wonder if he stands pat with this roster unless he can bring in someone truly elite ala Neel, Burrage, Kiick....one of those types. Or another transfer
