If I may hijack (even though it is kind of Too Hot), I think the notion is us old timers are going to watch and so they already have us. This is to hook new, younger groups. And I guess what they want to hook are latino lovers who don't mind middle aged women acting like Miley Cyrus. I just don't know what that group is.

Not like she did.....no one did what she did until JLo trumped her. Who needs Viagra when you have that halftime show featuring a strip pole:)

I thought Shakira was pretty good, for that sort of thing. At least some musical smarts went into her bit. Better than those bores Gaga and Mars. After about a minute of "Jenny," though, I was off to "Puppy Bowl."

Prince in the rain. Never to be topped.

It was much more enjoyable while muted.

We actually watched it in a lunch meeting at work today with about 20 people because everyone loved it so I guess there must be a market. Probably just us fancy city people enjoying pop culture while Rome is burning.

For a lot of cultures that don’t get shine on a national stage like that all too often, sure it was historic. Read a great article about all of the Middle Eastern influences in Shakira’s performance that I didn’t know anything about before.

Middle Eastern Belly-dancing and Latin dancing is not considered sexual in their cultures, that’s all on our prudish, repressed sexual Western thinking.

Shakira can still shake it, Jennifer is a bit stiff. Not my thing, but a few people at the party I was at loved it, particularly the 50 year old women. I was busy eating nachos and having a couple of star dust...

    Geez......

I remember when that "ass-shakin'" was reserved for "private dances"...and not for kids to watch.

They seem to program the halftime for the women more and more, since the men are a given.

Again, there’s nothing sexual about shaking your ass when doing Latin and Middle-Eastern inspired dancing. Kids learn it from a very young age.

It’s on Americans to stop viewing everything through a lens of hyper-sexuality.

The beach exposes much more, and why would kids watch the halftime show if the parents are offended? Halftime is for doing other things before the game begins again.

Everyone claiming there was no talent involved wouldnt be able to hold themselves up on a pole only using their legs like that. It was risque but it was also an impressive athletic performance. As far as being offended one has to choose to be offended. Make better choices people. Stop choosing to be offended over things. If you didnt want your kid to watch you get to decide to turn the channel. Pretty simple. How many of the "offended" ever went to a Wing House or a Hooters to watch a game? How many of the offended have been to a strip club? How many of the offended use to visit the babes thread in the Pub? How many of the offended make comments whenever a pic of pretty woman or fan is posted or used in someones Avatar? I guess you turn off westerns during the saloon scenes with all of the hookers.......

This. The Halftime show is sponsored by Pepsi. Pepsi is going to go with what will bring in viewers who don't normally watch.
