My grandparents live in Kentucky and took me here when I was a kid. I loved it.

The three position traffic signal was invented in Kentucky by former slave Garret Morgan.

Oh, and also on the same trip, we went to Ft Knox to watch a live fire demo. There were Abrahams tanks, helicopters, the comms were played over the PA system. The tanks were firing across a valley at targets. It was so dang cool. I wish I could remember more but I was pretty young. At one point, a mine clearing line was fired in front of a tank but didn't go off. You could hear on the PA system that something went wrong, then a guy popped out up on a mounted machine gun, and fired at the line until it blew up with a giant fireball the length or the line. Seeing tracers was neat. I'm not sure what it was called, but there were bleachers set up for civilians to watch. 10/10, would do again.

It looks something like this, but with more stuff. There were helicopters, pretty sure I saw an anti-tank missle fired. Any idea what this was called? Is CALFEX open to the public?

The source of one of John Prince’s great songs.

When I was a child my family would travel down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born.
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn.
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay.

I took some customers from NYC there. They were amazed a liquor store could be that big.

My brother was at Ft. Campbell twice for a total of 11 years, though he lived on the Tennessee side in Clarksville. Beautiful country around there.

Great musicians and bands, Adrian Belew, Slint, My Morning Jacket. Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche went to the conservatory at the University of Kentucky.
