Only UGA in the SECE has more talent than the Gators, according to those in the know.

As you say, last year the staff lost the locker room.

Mullen and his staff lost the locker room, lost their jobs, and made us fans lose our lunch.

In our last two games against Alabama, we were an average of 4 points from beating them. In 2020, we beat Georgia by 16 points. Hell, we were even playing Georgia pretty strong last year without our best defenders and ending the first half with a monsters screw up that lead to a double-digit deficit.

Our issues are self inflicted. We had players fumbling away games. Missing chip shot kicks. Throwing shoes. Dropping balls.

If you are reading the training camp notes about the Houston Texans (on CBS, Sports Illustrated, NFL.com), Dameon Pierce is probably going to be their starting running back this year. On their message boards, they're comparing him to Lamar Miller. This is from NFL people. This is not some all-star college football sports magazine. Think about the fact that Miller is a pro-bowler. Good.

Now remember that he averaged less than 8 carries a game last year at Florida.

The talent may, or may not, still be on the team, but Mullen was teaching a Master Class on pissing away talent and STILL almost winning games.

I've said this before but I really don't think that it's a significant rebuild we have. We're not lacking for talent, we are top 10 in talent, it's just aren't at the elite level of game breaking talent we were at during NC contention.

While Mac and Mullen might not have recruited the high end talent that we expect, they did a decent job of plugging the holes in the roster. Remember our 5 scholarship OL that Muschamp left us with that required FCS transfers and open tryouts just to field a team.

Motivation and discipline go a LONG way.
    4-8 <- Muschamp should've been fired
    7-5 <- Muschamp fired
    10-4
    9-4
    4-7 <-Mac lost team/fired midseason
    10-3
    11-2
    8-4
    6-7 <- Mullen lost team/fired midseason

I don't see any reason why a highly motivated and disciplined team that commits less penalities shouldn't put out a decent season. The first year overall record isn't going to be make or break for me as long as we look competitive and play hard. I'd rather take a "meh" first season record like Saban and Kirby had at their schools if it meant we had a better foundation for sustainable success over time.

The crazy thing is, even though FSU fans love to blame Jimbo, is that Willie Taggart inherited the 4th most talented roster in the country just a few years ago.

Ironically. The top ten at end of year will probably be in this exact configuration

one game comes to mind on switch-flipping. Do you remember our 28-28 tie with Rutgers? We had a big lead in the 3rd, put in the backup QB, a couple of turnovers later, we're tied and put all of starters back in with plenty of clock. They couldn't flip the switch back and I certainly don't think it had anything to do with Rutgers talent. It happens.

Looks to me like we need to fire the coach after year 2 as Year 3 is dismal!

Yes, we need to be proactive and fire them before they had a chance to fail

This fooling around waiting to see if they can actually do the job deal can be extremely tedious.

almost 40 years ago? I’m sure you can find some similarities, but overall it was pretty different situation imo.

Our teams have been underachievers lately... hope that ended last year and we start playing like the team that we have. Billy Napier is the man for the job and I do believe he gets the job done.
