I call out the left and right when deserved. In this instance, I've criticized no one but you.

My takeaway is that DeSantis is a duplicitous worm that played politics with disaster relief that his own state requires with distressing frequency, but he gave his supporters a tiny hook (meaningless "yay," vote) to hang a battered hat upon.

If you cut it and move it to the right places you could.

Yep, pretty common in any deliberative/legislative body. Heck, some amendments are actually meant as poison pills, designed to make the bill unpassable.

    I linked it.
    HR 219.

I also read the entire amendment.

Okay, this is ridiculous. Yes, a different amendment could have been a standalone. But we aren't talking in theory here. We are talking about the specific amendment to the specific bill.

HR 219 is not the amendment being discussed here, nor does it do what that amendment does. It is a totally separate, standalone issue.

HR 214 seems to basically give the POTUS (Obama) authority in such matters. I was asking for legal help in regards to the semantics of what his vote means.

I was ONLY talking about the election part. You do not subscribe to the "Election was stolen" crowd, correct? That was the part of his post I was alluding to. You are no MAGA man, and not an election denier so this does not apply to you.

But one where he appears to support relief and grants Obama leeway in funding said relief correct?

Correct. The people perpetuating that lie are doing great harm and sadly many millions of good people have been tricked and fooled by Trump and his snake oil.

Yeah, the purpose of these amendment votes is often exclusively messaging/damage control. Your party and base expects you to vote "no" on the bill for xyz reasons, but you know that doing so you will upset another constituency.

So you put up an amendment that you know won't pass so you can say "well, golly, I would have voted for a 'clean bill' but my awful opponents put so much pork and junk in the bill I just couldn't in good conscious do it."

Basically it lets you talk out of both sides of your mouth and pull the old "I was for it before I was against it routine."

Now, of course this is absued in both ways. Often times the majority party actually will put a bunch of extraneous crap in bills, knowing that it will force their opponent to vote against, and then they can campaign on that "no" vote.

It's the stereotypical commerical in ominous black and white exclaiming "candidate X voted against care for disabled veteran babies!! How evilll!"

He literally did not but it is quite amusing to see you tell everyone how wrong they are when it’s documented in black white the opposite of what you contend.

It’s the same exact thing. The difference is nobody started a thread here praising Kamala for doing it.
