National recruiting news
Nice pick up.
Georgia gets a commit from 5* DT Travon Walker...
Their 4th 5* in this class.
Amazing what Kirby is doing. Did it recruiting wise the moment he took over.
Many of these kids are from GA and no other competition in the State. They all grew up bull dog fans
Not sure we even have 4 5*s on our whole team. Getting schooled in recruiting by UGA the past few years and currently.
We don’t. In fact if we fail to sign one this cycle, we will have zero on our entire roster next season.
We have 2
If your lived in north Georgia you know how that is up there ti
Kirby lost 5 games his first season but recruits didn't blink. Why can't we get more players to believe in our future? Arggh, georgia is just loading up again. Their class is 60% full(assuming they can take a full class) and ranked 4th per rivals. Grrrrr.
Wasn't Grimes one too?
Grimes was not a "consensus" 5-star, but was a 5-star in Rivals rankings (not in 247's, where he was 41st overall).
Same w/ Clayton. He was not a consensus, but was a 5-star in Rivals, 4-star on 247.
I still say we are hurt by the COE stiepend . I think we were ranked near the bottom. that makes a difference in recruiting with those schools who are distributing more money. When this was implemented a couple years ago Florida’s recruiting ranking decreased.
Slaton was a 5* on one network but as a OG, not a DT.
That's another - of the many - excuses. UGA's is lower than ours.
Tennessee and Auburn offer 2000$ more than UF . It makes a damn difference. Several SEC schools offer more than UF and are ranked higher than UF in the rankings. Ole Miss , USC , Miss State, of course FSU and several others.
You are correct about UGA .However, I did not say they spent more than UF . Make sure you read the post first.
Of course it makes a difference, but it's not the primary reason we're so far behind in recruiting. Tell me why UGA's not having a problem? Oh yeah, 'they're cheating' (which is basically what everyone says anytime we're out-recruited). We're 9th in the SEC and within a few hundred dollars of being 6th. Yes, I think it's an issue - but there are way more concerns that COA w/ our program.
Miss. State $5,156
South Carolina $4,201
Texas A&M $3,528
Vanderbilt declined to provide
Kirby inherited a damn good program from Mark Richt. Fell right into his lap.
I think UF’s recruiting issue is not only Georgia, but Clemson.. Clemson has taken a lot of Florida kids for many years. Recruits that Florida has been involved with.
...and so has Alabama, and Ohio State, and Auburn, and now Penn State (Seider), and South Carolina (Muschamp's Florida ties), etc, etc.
I'm hoping Mullen can salvage this class (get inside the top 20 and pull in 10 or more blue-chip players)....and then focus on 2020 and regaining a foothold in the state again. Orlando, Jacksonville, and Tampa/Sarasota areas should become a priority.
