Here it is, straight from the horse’s mouth in paragraph 6 of the article below:

BREAKING: UF quarterback suffers injury in practice

Mullen did not commit to making Trask the starter over Franks. He made a point not to commit to which quarterback he was going to play.

Named the starter was wrong, too strong. Insider's were hearing Trask was going to start as he was winning the practices plus after playing well late against Missouri. The fact that Mullen was openly saying the position was open was a big deal at the time.

And yet, Dan is not going with Richardson.

Per ESPN, "Yeah," Mullen said, laughing. "Yes. As I said, we have two really good quarterbacks."

What exactly was it about Emory that was so good? Two interceptions? Overthrown passes? Late decisions? Staring down receivers? Failure to score inside the 10-yard-line? Yeah, those good things.

I really want the kid to succeed, but I think he struggles with game pressure. And Richardson is ready to play right now. Mullen has been successful, but this part of his coaching confounds me.

That is my issue with Mullen. Winning practice isn’t as important as how you play during game time. Practice can’t hope to place the same stress on a player as game action can. It shouldn’t have taken the Missouri meltdown to finally give Trask a shot.

He was not. The very first question in his Monday press conference on November 5th, 2018 gave Mullen a perfect opportunity to name a starter for the South Carolina game and he deflected. He said Franks and Trask “graded within one point” of each other and they would see how the week went.

The point here is that Mullen was wrong about Franks and it’s possible he was wrong the whole time. Franks may have been the right guy over Trask at one time, but even that we’ll never know for sure. We’re hoping history is not repeating itself.

EDIT: Just saw you corrected your earlier post. My bad. In all likelihood, you’re right. Barring injury, Trask was going to start. But that Mullen never named him the starter until he had no choice still matters. Even in 2018, we had to lose two straight and completely collapse against Missouri for it to be a conversation.

Richardson gets broken in half in the second series? Are you even watching the games? If Richardson plays virtually every down, we can win this game.

Mullen took over a 4-7 team that had a broken locker room and almost no confidence. And was looking for Alphas on the team to help lead it. Franks seized it and embraced it. Trask didn’t. And it worked itself out. This constant 2nd guessing of that decision from 3 & half years ago is a really poor take.

(Question was why AR shouldn’t make his first start against Bama’s defense.)

Because Mullen chose to start EJ games 1 and 2 and to give him the majority of reps over spring and fall practices. Because AR is a RS freshman with no real game experience prior to this year and a total of 11 pass attempts this year. If Mullen does think AR can do more than short, scripted stretches in which he has three options: run, hand-off or throw to a single receiver (which is all he has done, even if he has done it very well), then he should still give EJ the nominal start and just play AR more.

no, the current protocol is to take off both legs for symmetry.

How can it not be after he left the game with a hamstring injury.

Perhaps Dr. Barrett Sallee has determined that the injury will heal in time.

I'm still trying to figure out why a comment from Brett Sally couldn't have just been another post in the "Anthony Richardson to start?" thread.

Stick with the plan. When AR does trot on the field the "ohchits" will be seen on Bama players.

The three grades of hamstring injury are:
    • Grade I: a mild muscle strain - likely to recover in a few days.
    • Grade II: a partial muscle tear.
    • Grade III: a complete muscle tear or tear of an attachment - may take weeks or months.

    • most likely 1 or 2. With grade 3, walking would have been difficult. Interesting that Will Anderson left game yesterday with knee injury. Two best overall players on each team may be out.

It’s a ploy to throw Bama off. AR faked the injury and will be ready to go next week.

Sure, in theory. The question was what bad effect could possibly come from getting him in immediately, not is he or isn't he an outlier relative to other QBs.
