Okay okay, I'll admit I made a mistake. Trump is clearly just a tool for the conservatives to get their policies in place.
    I can live with that.

I am a moderately conservative Christian. Trump represents some of my political views (SCOTUS appointees for example), but he as a man, is a million miles from my values, and the ones I teach my kids.

Pure delusion. There is no indication that Obama is anything other than a decent family man.

You guy tried, and tried, but never found much on Obama the man ... the best you can do now is imply that good people can't "work and teach" in Chicago ... makes me wonder if your hatred is race motivated ....

it's like the guys that do homosexual porn but tell themselves and everyone else "but I'm not gay".

Folks are free to delude themselves. Just don't expect me to play along.

If you are a Republican that voted for trump then your "family values" BS is just that; a delusion-- or at the very least one is willing to put such "values" on hold so long as one sees the benefit of supporting someone who has none.

Nice try, but was never my choice based on ideology.
I never could trust him. But I delayed judgment until end of his first term.

How am I nitpicking? You are painting with a janitor’s broom. How is being from Chicago in any way evidence or even an indication that Obama is anything other than a family man?

I don't think Democrats get a pass just because we haven't been as over the top as Republicans about their morality. (Or, as we know, their lack of it.)
Personally, I consider Democrats as the party of family values.

come on guys. back off a little. I really don't want to start deleting a bunch of posts, but simply calling posts 'miserable' and 'racist' does leads to the petty, personal bickering that we've all done really well at avoiding.
I think it'd be great if you guys could just elevate the conversation a little and make it easier on us poor, beleaguered mods. I mean, what with the shutdown and all, we're not even being paid for this.
    thanks

Thoughtful excerpt. Thank you for posting (although I half thought this was going to have something to do with Salma and not F.A.) Mr Hayek was several times profound:

Personally, I find that the most objectionable feature of the conservative attitude is its propensity to reject well-substantiated new knowledge because it dislikes some of the consequences which seem to follow from it—or, to put it bluntly, its obscurantism.

Connected with the conservative distrust of the new and the strange is its hostility to internationalism and its proneness to a strident nationalism. Here is another source of its weakness in the struggle of ideas. It cannot alter the fact that the ideas which are changing our civilization respect no boundaries.

There has been a lot written about FA Hayek over the years (and about the hotter Hayek too :) ) but it seems many people, particularly those inclined toward the extremes of libertarian thought seem to get quite a bit wrong.

And Reagan was an outstanding person who wanted nothing but the best for America. Why am I saying this? because the devil is in the details. Most importantly, the people he was surrounded with did not quite live up to that level.

But Reagan was EVIL whereas Obama meant well. That seems to be the pat answer.
