I'm not linking endless threads and posts of people on social media complaining about the referees. Sorry mate.

It boils down to consistency, no matter which team is affected. This crew chose to overlook any hold by either team for 95% of the game, but were calling PI with very little contact and letting more obvious contact go unchecked. Primary example the PI being called on Marshall, yet the flag against Pearsall was picked up.

Next week's crew may be subject to call every hold out there and let the DB's maul the receivers.

It obvious that their isn't a big enough pool of officials to hold them accountable and replaceable for egregious performances. Either that or they choose not to.

I’m not going to whine about the refs but this Zapruder theory is total bunk.

PI wasn’t called b/c it wasn’t PI. Incidental contact and the defender has zero obligation to be facing the ball. All those mental gymnastics and you don’t show that the Burney deflected the ball with his hand before it hits his head. He’s “not making a play for the ball,” but somehow puts his whole mitt on it…ok.

A single screenshot to justify “contact” is data manipulation, not evidence.

Now do the same deep dive analysis on the AR moon ball heave to Shorter (?) in the second quarter….or don’t waste the time, that correctly wasn’t PI either, despite more “contact” than you’re hanging your case on.

The most egregious thing to me about the officiating this year has been the multiple low hits on AR while in the pocket which is why the rule exists and yet I don't even recall them calling it once. Meanwhile the call against us in the Kentucky game was a scrambling qb.

And I can't even explain it. I don't believe it's a conspiracy. It just stands out to me in particular because It involves a high profile player who is known for injuries and yet he has been hit low at least 3 times without a flag.

You're mischaracterizing what has been said, repeatedly, in this thread. Strange.

We also don't care about what may be written on any other boards. You must be confusing us with another place.

Other boards and social media groups are way less monitored and they say some pretty awful and stupid stuff and yet even those boards I have seen are not blaming the loss on the refs while at the same time criticizing those refs for the bad calls. It doesn't have to be an either or thing. Not sure why there are a handful of people here who are twisting words.

Total microcosm of current society going on here.
Step 1: make outrageous claim with zero evidence. Exaggerate the behaviors made in said claim.
Step 2: refuse to provide evidence when requested for previous extreme claim.
Step 3: double down on initial claim, criticize those requesting it, and behave as if you’re the one being unreasonable for your request for evidence.
    Does that about cover it?

I was/am disappointed also but the refs sucked ass. It seems okay to feel both things. When you're getting your ass handed to you it makes all the more infuriating when the refs are also in that line.

No, you forgot the most important point.

I know you are, but what am I?

Okay, that isn't very mature, so I will just go with "I am rubber and you are glue..."

It’s not complicated. We needed help to compete with UGA. Refs didn’t help…and actually hurt.

So - was the the out of bounds low hit on AR on the first series a penalty or not???

You are entitled to your opinion.

Here is where you are in error:
    • I never stated that not facing the ball is a penalty. I stated, that it can be used to determine if the defender is making an attempt to catch or deflect the pass. If contact happens in the scenario, the defender is not charged with PI if he has a clear shot at catching or deflecting the pass.
    • The photo that I provided was not manipulated. Also, you should of watched the video. It shows the contact after the ball was thrown. By the way the video is a legit video.
    • The deflection or none deflection of the ball was never a question in this debate. The pictures/video show that there was contact made by the defender. Also, this contact happened before the deflection. Thus, the contact and the PI was first the deflection is a none issue. If the deflection had happened first, there is not any PI.

Here is the college rule on pass interference.
Defensive pass interference is contact beyond the neutral zone by a Team B player whose intent to impede an eligible opponent is obvious and could prevent the opponent the opportunity of receiving a catchable forward pass. Defensive pass interference occurs only after a legal forward pass is thrown.

The only item to question on the possible PI is the "intent" part.

As for my focus on this play, I was showing that the refs cold of called PI on the Gators but he did not.

Again, did the refs help the Dawg? Oh hell yes. However, the Gators did not help themselves a whole lot.

Thanks. This issue has not given me any grief. I do admit that I am having a hard time with real fans of the Gators and or College Football stating that the refs cost the Gators this game. The definition of being a good team is not only being good enough to beat an opponent, but also being good enough to beat bad calls by the refs.

Thankfully, contrary to what one certain poster in this thread keeps insisting for his own personal reasons, nobody I've seen in Swamp Gas is saying the refs cost Florida the game.

I think what is upsetting is the number of big plays which seem to be called back by a ticky tack penalty or "hold" on a lineman which could be called every play. Then the other way a ticky tack call happens on us when our defense finally stops a 3rd down or gets a big play (note these are rare events).

This mentality is what drives me nuts about Steve Russell and many of the other posters' comments on this thread. What is the proper way to discuss poor officiating (even if only on select plays) while separating it from the idea that it is what cost us the game?

One of the problems is that technology has advanced to the point that it's far easier to see where officials make mistakes; of course, most fans are going to notice the mistakes that go against them more than the mistakes that go in their favor. But it's reasonable for proper checks and balances to be in place so that the calls can be as accurate as possible without disrupting the flow of the game.
