What do you think in the easiest negative sell for coaches. The nasty dripping sweat and heat in the south. Or the OMG im gonna freeze deez nuts off up north?. Some of those northern boys come down and almost pass out from the heat and humidity. meanwhile,The good ole boys who hardly ever see temps below 40 end up at places like Ohio state where snow, ice and subfreezing temps are another day at the office. Always wondered if that made any difference.
I honestly don’t know that either can be effectively negatively recruited. It really is something kids have a hard time grasping without experiencing. A kid from the North may visit UF in the summer and decide on their own that the heat is too much and vise versa. My wife was a collegiate swimmer from central Florida and accepted a scholarship in Ohio when she had offers in the south. To this day she says the winter wasn’t as bad as it is made out to be and the other three seasons were pretty nice. If I had to pick one I believe has the greatest potential impact, I would say the heat for a northern athlete would be more detrimental. It is more likely to actually harm than playing in the cold. Also, you’re missing a “c” in tactics.
Probably, your coach is going to get fired if you go there. Or look at all the criminality at that school. Do you want your kid to grow up to be like that?
I believe since the OPs post discussed only weather between north and south, they were wanting that to be the topic.
18 year old boys...easy. Bikini season is very short up there and those girls arent like Florida girls when theyre wearing that bikini.
The first sentence asked about the best negative recruiting tactics, and then weather was used as an example. The truth is if you read some of these articles that quote recruits on UF this cycle many of them say they are waiting for wins on the field. That is the negative recruiting that is working against us this cycle right now. I’ve seen direct quotes from Carter, Stubbs, and Autry saying that wins on the field are the only thing standing in the way between them and a commitment to Florida. If what Napier is saying in press conferences is correct he should be able to deliver and overcome that negative recruiting on the field this season. FWIW, there is a crack in the foundation at both Georgia and Florida right now, but I imagine winning is easier to turn around than a football program engrossed in criminality. If Napier wins on the field this season we are going to become a recruiting juggernaut IMO.
You can always put on another layer in the cold. You can only take off so much before people start getting offended in the heat, and it’s still hot even if you’re bare assed. I’d like to live somewhere that’s like mid 50’s, mid 60’s year round.
With the money they make now, they can have them transported up north. It's not the same as the old days: Why Notre Dame Can't Recruit
The first sentence was rhetorical followed by two choices, not examples. I agree with the rest of your statement. UGAs criminal record over the last two years has to be easy pickings when talking to moms about their kids future. If we win 7+ this season, I think Napier if given the time he needs and builds sustainable success. Currently what is going on around UGA reminds me very much of the Urban Meyer years here and we all watched that crash and burn. UGA though is systematically corrupt, which actually helps them extend the shelf life of that cesspool. Go Gators!
As a resident Northerner, I would be miserable for probably about 6 months of the year in Florida heat. It was 80 and humid yesterday and I was like, this sucks. I'll take a snowball fight over heat stroke any day of the week.
As a born again Southerner, I left NY in 1987 and have never looked back. I’ll take the heat any day.
