Gainesville to reach record-high temperatures during heat wave

"While high temperatures are not uncommon in June and July, McGinnis said Gainesville has not had a high of 100 degrees since June 16, 2015.

“Gainesville has hit 100 degrees in the month of May five times in the past 129 years,” he said."

If it hits 100 tomorrow, which it very well could, that would make 4 times in a row this year alone. Thank gawd for AC, pools, lakes and springs. And Netflix. :)

Looks like a pleasant 73 in Hogtown right now, with a high of 98 tomorrow. Hang in there.

Today's high in Duluth was about 70 (with sunshine). Of course, this is one of about 10 days during the year that I get to brag about our weather.

Just went out to the mailbox and yes, it is a nice cool evening. In a couple weeks, the humidity meter gets put on high, so in a couple more weeks, I might be wanting to take that boat trip from Grand Portage over to Isle Royale. Would be a nice cool down. Here it's on like donkey kong until October. The struggle is real. :D

Dont know how it is in Gaineville but in Deland where I live it was 96 yesterday but the humidity was comfortably in the 20s. I spent most of my spare time on my porch swing.

We topped out at 80 today. Dang, that's hot when your annual avg temp is 55. It's 97 in Hogtown right now :emoji_scream:

My experience in Hogtown was that it was usually a high of 94 during summer. That, however, comes with little breeze. There were a few years around 2010 where summer highs were more like 96-98. Night, though, was always 80s and stayed gross. That's when the lack of an ocean/gulf breeze is tough.

We only hit 99 yesterday or the 100 mark would be at 4. Oh well, I'm enjoying the cool down. ;)

Actually with the low humidity the evenings and mornings are pretty nice. No worries, in a couple weeks that will be history until Halloween.

I that pic from yesterday? :)

I remember going camping on the north shore in May and sunbathing on the ice sheet on Lake Superior.

Last month was hottest May in Florida in more than a century
In the Gvl Sun By Kimberly Miller
Nationwide, May was marked more by rain than heat.
A steadfast carousel of high pressure over Florida last month led to the warmest May in more than a century, with an average temperature nearly 4 degrees above what’s normal for the fifth month of the year.
At 78.8 degrees — 3.7 degrees hotter than normal — May in the Sunshine State earned the top spot for record heat in measurements that date back to 1895, according to a report released Thursday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Florida was the only state in the contiguous U.S. that ranked hottest in May, but southeastern states from Alabama to Maryland recorded above average warmth as the same area of high pressure cleared away springtime clouds.

Florida climatologist David Zierden said the May heat was more of a weather phenomenon than something tied to climate change.
