That's exactly why he won't hire an OC. It will be confirmation that he truly is an incompetent fool of an OC, not to mention an awful game day manager, and he has put Gator nation through avoidable and painful misery for his ego's sake. Multiple other teams have fired their coaches. We should be done with him already.
My first Florida game was in 1957. I saw the first UF-FSU football games in person. I was there for the go for dos against Georgia Tech in 1960 to win 18-17. We were long suffering Gator fans. Florida joined the SEC in 1932 and did not win an SEC championship until 1991, although we had won it in 1984 only to have it stripped away by the NCAA. Tom McEwen, the Tampa Tribune sportswriter, once wrote that when Florida finally wins its first SEC championship, the next day the graveyards will be full of Gator fans reading the headlines to those fans who had. passed on. Two of my high school friends went to FSU, and after FSU beat Florida for the first time in many years, we met at the edge of the playing field. If someone had told us the future, we would not have believed them.
It’s obviously the bad coaching hires. Napier, Muschamp, and Mac could coach Ohio State and Alabama and they’d find a way to destroy them. That doesn’t mean the next coach will do well. But at this point we aren’t even trying to be successful Billy Napier may not even be in the top 500 potential head college coaches in the country.
It was my mistake that I quoted all Rh's post. I was only referencing to the last statement in regards to Napier.
Good coaches look for, and find, a way to win. Losing looks for, and finds, a way to poor coaches. Losing has been beating a path to Billy Napier's door almost routinely for 4 years now. And poor coaches DO NOT win championships. It is a simple equation, basically a tautology. This program is only going to be as good as its COACH is. It is beyond debate that Spurrier and Meyer were coaching GENIUSES and when we had them, we won BIG. This is my first and last post ever about Napier because I have not actively posted since 2020, but I have wanted him to be successful all this time and am devastated that he wasn't. He is a quality man and I really have respected him. But HE CANNOT COACH FOOTBALL AT THE SEC LEVEL. He has no feel for the game from a sideline perspective and probably not from a chalkboard perspective either. The game is bigger than he is. It overwhelms him. I have been a Gator since 1974, watched Dickey. Doug Dickey looks like Don Shula or Bill Walsh compared to Napier. Our program has always been targeted for destruction by our SEC "brethren" and it does NOT need to be undermined FROM WITHIN by abysmal coaching. We have enough problems with our enemies in tuscaloosa, athens, baton rouge, knoxville etc. The next coach must be one that has proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that he is NOT a Napier. That means experience. And that man will solve all our problems readily, like Spurrier and Meyer did. It is NOT the program. One Coach Away.
As the Napier era ends, we can reflect on this, we have more losing seasons over the last 15 years than we had in the first 100. Here's to saying goodbye to the worst 15 year period in Gator football history!
There's probably about a dozen coaches who could take us consistently to/near the playoffs. Half we don't know their names and aren'tiin the mood to take a chance on. Of the remaining half, most we won't get near which leaves a few that will require swift and intense action to hire with big bank. The consensus seems to be that group is Kiffin , Freeman, Brohm.
I like brohm, but I don't think he's the answer. He's always been up and down. Where was the love after his Virginia game 2 weeks ago?
Well, with the 12 team format, every coach we had since Graves would have had at least one playoff appearance ... ...except one.
Throw in Ray Graves who won 9 for the first time in Gators history & brought a multi sport athlete from TN. to Gainesville!
Maybe. I get the feeling he wouldn't have the same success or hold up under the pressure in hog town.
When was the last time Missouri was relevant? Now he can provide smart offensive football and give teams like Florida another loss. He seems to have common sense to make changes when needed and has a competitive SEC team every year. He is in the “show me” state and he is showing he is one of the best coaches in college football and would bring excitement to the Swamp.
