I'm going with Brett venebles at Clemson.... I know he's highly paid... Back up the brinks truck for him and make him an offer he simply can't refuse.

    Orlando.... Again
Strong, Quin, Durkin would be my first calls. We can pay them enough to come.

Next I'd look at fired HC's who are defensively minded.

The DC for Arkansas, Barry Odom. And I bet he is also a better recruiter than Grantham.

The title says realistically but the posts are very unrealistic IMO

“Realistically”? Venables isn’t realistic at all.

Grantham’s replacement is most likely already on the staff.

Don’t like that? Think Stocky Strucklandathan should dictate something to the contrary? Better be prepared to write a 7 figure check (minimum) to the UAA, with specific caveats. Anything less won’t move the needle.

low key, back up the brinks truck for Corey Raymond if LSU gets rid of Coach O. Yes he’s an LSU guy through and through, but I’d give him a shot

Well, since we are being realistic maybe we can hire a medium to channel Tom Landry.

    But Scalley?

My strategy would be to look at a list of HCs that are on the hot seat and look for guys that were good DCs but just couldn’t cut it as a head coach. Barry Odom was the guy I really wanted a couple of years ago.

Justin Wilcox would be my choice.

And as much as the fanbase would be divided over him, Jeremy Pruitt definity deserves a look.

    Realistically?

Manny Diaz if he gets canned by Miami.
Geoff Collins if he gets canned by GT
    Marquand Manuel

Marvin Lewis would certainly be a gem, but he is probably pretty comfortable at ASU with Herman Edwards.

I’ll toss Chris Ash in the hat.

    * I would bet Kevin Steele will be in the mix.

    I realize it's a conversation starter but...
That's Scott Stricklin's job. It's his job to have a list of candidates he would hire as head coach and probably football coordinators since they cost more than a million per year.
I would like a young coach who's up on defending today's offenses with rpo's and the emphasis on shutting down passing games. A top notch recruiter is needed too.
I also realize as most here do that shoot-outs in the high 30's and even 40's are going to happen under today's rules. Just a coach who's not inflexible and entrenched in systems that are 25 years old. A coach who is quick to make adjustments in-game and play the playmakers no matter their seniority in the system. There's a reason we get few defensive turnovers these days.

Probably not very PC, but I'd rather not bring in a guy in his sixties. I wouldn't have a problem if he took an analyst position.

Muschamp would be an upgrade but UGA snatched him up as an analyst or something.

The next DC needs to be a young guy with a good track record and wants to prove himself in the big leagues.

Between 30-40 yrs old. Old enough to get players respect, young enough to relate to today's player. High energy.
