I don’t know, is that a legacy? Just seems like luck whether justices need to be replaced while a particular president is in office.

True, I was mostly talking about what makes Trump tick and how he can get on the good side of the history books. He could fundamentally change the makeup of the courts for quite a few years.

For sure, this is a way to actually change the way the country works, unlike most of what we focus on with presidents. For example, i think we get way too wrapped up in the current economy, which the president doesn’t really control.

I like this idea. Replace a far left Justice with a moderate. It would be difficult for the dems to obstruct.

The only way that will happen will be if their aren't any vacancies on the court, including RBG's seat, until Trump leaves office.

It is a good idea, but it won't happen. As someone earlier pointed out, it would be bad form not to replace Justice Ginsburg with a woman.

Has their been an explanation why? I know she seems to be having a cascade of health problems but this is atypical for her.

Sorry - no switcheroo of subjects allowed. You responded to a poster who said the Dems would attack and try to destroy the next nominee with the statement that only Bork and Meier were unable to gain a seat on the SCOTUS. Clarence Thomas was attacked and the attempt was there to destroy him. Perhaps it was warranted, perhaps not - but that’s not the issue. Any Pub nominated by Trump will be attacked; again, whether warranted or not.

I looked it up. She had about half a lung removed which isnt great but my sister seems to be doing ok with only 3/4 of a single lung(cancer sucks) but she will require about 4 more weeks to recover.

The attacks on Neil Gorsuch were particularly vicious.

How about some good news on a thread that has turned a bit ghoulish at times.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg shows 'no evidence of remaining disease,' Supreme Court says

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's recovery from surgery is "on track" but she will miss oral arguments next week, the Supreme Court announced Friday. Ginsburg is still recuperating from surgery to remove two cancerous nodules from her lungs.

"Post-surgery evaluation indicates no evidence of remaining disease, and no further treatment is required," said court spokesperson Kathleen Arberg.

Ginsburg, 85, who missed oral arguments this week, has not been on the bench since her surgery last month, but she has participated by reading briefs at home.

Dr. Robert Miller, a professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, said he did not think it was "alarming" Ginsburg was not back at work three weeks after surgery but that he would be concerned "if her activity level does not improve over the next few weeks."

    I’m telling y’all.

Nominating Merrick Garland would upset the democrats.

Trump doesn’t care if it’s a woman or not to replace RBG.

Oh gosh yeah. We would be so upset. There's no better way to own the libs than to nominate Garland. Except maybe to pass DACA. We'd be sooooo mad that Trump did it and not Obama.

RBG is cancer free. No retirees until after 2020. RBG might go out feet first but it will be after the next election. She'll be replaced by another woman, possibly even another Jewish woman but in reality, she is irreplaceable.

I think libs would balk at Garland because he’s center of RBG. It would be difficult to fight the appointment after he was nominated by President Obama.

They’d be like “damn, we’re stuck.

    I’d be fine with Garland.

I just don’t want another hardcore conservative. There needs to be some balance.

If history has taught us anything, it is that no one is irreplaceable. Valar morghulis.
