Just the amount of money alone those schools are willing to pay a coach because of their recent success probably overcomes a lot of Cons.

Only 5 active coaches have won a title and only 2 have had any real success since:
    Nick Saban. 7
    Dabo sweeney 2
    Mack brown. 1
    Jimbo Fisher. 1
    Coach O. 1

3 of those five have yet to even sniff that same success since. And even Dabo better be careful his team don't continue to slide. Like you said winning championships is not easy and sustaining it year after year is damn near impossible .

Prioritize championship football immediately behind academic achievement, including staffing the administration with personnel who share that vision. Every decision the university makes should be viewed through the perspective of does this further our goals of being a premier academic institution & championship caliber football program? If it doesn’t then your making the wrong decision. Other issues where UF is behind the curve include recruiting budget, analyst staff, assistant pay, and staying ahead of the facilities curve. I know there’s a ton of facility development ongoing but that only brings UF up to the status quo, with all of UF’s resources we should be leading the way in all aspects of CFB.

For some reason many seem to think prioritizing football means deemphasizing academics. The two aren’t mutually exclusive or a zero sum game.

But I would argue that really comes down to having a head coach that knows how to build and maintain a program at the level of UF. IMO, the problem is that Mullen either doesn't know what to ask for or how to exploit the resources provided to achieve the level of success we'd all like to see. From my perspective I haven't really seen anything from the current admin that suggests they aren't committed to championship football, as much as the fact that we have a head coach that lacks vision and commitment to be the CEO of a multi-million dollar football operation.

I’m not sure what you mean by admin. The school administration has a huge state school to run. Football isn’t going to be on the agenda of 95% of the admin. The success of football is up to the AD, the football staff and UFAA. Both the AD and the UFAA have other responsibilities as well.

While Foley was a great AD, he fell behind the times towards the end and failed to capitalize on the success of Meyer by investing heavily on football. I think that has left many fans with a bad taste in their mouths and they now blame the ‘admin’.

At the end of the day it’s up to the football staff to work with the AD to get the support that they need. Meyer asked for new football offices and a new gym. He got them. Muschamp was terrible, didn’t understand that part of the job. Mac scoffed at the half assed indoor facility and he got a full sized one. We are getting a new facility. I agree we are behind but it’s clear we are willing to spend. We just don’t put all our eggs in one basket, but neither do other schools.

UF is a top 10 school. Outside of another top 10 school, every coach would jump at a chance to coach here.

    1. The Gators should never have a recruiting class outside of the top 15 and should be top 10 or better most years.

    2. UF should be a contender for top 10 ranking every year and in contention for the SEC East Title every year.

    3. UF should never be ranked outside of the top 25.

If any of these three things are happening.... Something is wrong.

Well, until they quit or have an unexpectedly bad season, then the pitchforks and torches come out. Amazing how many people forget that for most of UF's history, we never won anything. Charter member of the SEC and didn't get our first official title until 1991 (unofficials in '84 and '90).

It was #1 or #2 during SOS or Meyer's years. It changed considerably in the last 10 years. At best, maybe top 10.

Slight technicality but Mac didn’t scoff at the IPF and get a bigger one, the IPF and standalone football operations building are 2 separate concepts as established at most competing schools. He always knew we’d need both and was mainly impatient that we didn’t already have it figured out and that it would take so long to do once we did do both (because softball/baseball stadiums relocation had to happen first for the standalone).

Anyway my main point is that our IPF is in no way half assed, it’s full assed, or no assed depending on whether you like or dislike ass.

It was very fun then. I'd argue more fun than the 2 we got from Meyer. Frustrating at times (F$U, that "one" loss every year), but a blast to watch and be a part of. I loved the fact that he was, truly, one of us. When he talked chit about F$U, Georgia, etc. he was doing it in the same sprit we do.

The biggest pro we offer packs the most punch for the young and hungry: exposure.

But we keep throwing fat money at middle agers, thereby making them fat, happy, and complacent, and expecting them to still be y'ungry.

There are very few incorruptibly ambitious to the core dudes out there. Very few.

We need to go with the grain of humanity, not against it.

The original facility was going to be only 70 yds. McElwain pushed for a full size facility.

    There is no con.

Everything needed to win at a high level is present with UF.

If a coach doesn't succeed here. It's his or her own fault.

Got it, didn’t realize that was ever on the table. So dumb but sounds like a Foley era move.

The only problem with that is a top 10 class still puts us at 5th best in the SEC, 4th if we're lucky.
