Looks like the NCAA is not going to use the RPI in its ranking algorithm.
In its place, the NCAA will use something called the NCAA Evaluation Tool (N.E.T.) to determine seedings in the NCAA Tournament.

It seems that we nearly always had a pretty good RPI rating in the past.

Does anyone know the differences between the RPI and the NET and how that may affect us?

Nothing but NET: NCAA boots RPI for evaluation

I liked RPI as it forced programs to play other good programs. Sounds like some teams that got left out from P5 conferences must have complained

The original RPI was easy to game if you were a program like Duke. In the original RPI there was no distinction between home court, away games, and neutral court. Duke, being the then darling of ESPN, could get teams from mid-major conferences that would have gaudy won/loss records at the end of the year to come to Cameron Indoor to be beaten.

Eventually there was an improvement to the RPI that took into account where the game was played so it became harder to game it so egregiously, but you still could by cherry picking the mid-major teams that you would play. Gonzaga and Wichita State were not ones that you wanted to play on neutral courts or away.

KenPom and Sagarin Predictor are MUCH better indicators of team strength.
