I found out this morning Gatormb passed away on September 17th, 2024. He had not posted in many years, but many of you here might remember him. I went to several football games with Gatormb including the dismantling of FSU at Doak under Mullen. I remember Gatormb for two more things beyond his love of Gator football. He was passionate about evangelism, and Ray Comfort was in many ways his biggest inspiration and hero in that area. He was also passionate about reformed theology with RC Sproul having a huge impact on his Christian faith and his understanding of the Bible. Gatormb will be missed!
MB and I didn't agree on a lot politically but he was a solid dude that, as far as I could tell, walked the walk. RIP
Was that the guy with the 'chopper' avi who started all the religious threads? (Who left during the conservative exodus)
I don’t think so. Gatormb’s avatar had a picture of John Coffey, a character from the movie Green Mile. He was a gentle giant wrongfully convicted of raping and murdering two girls. John Coffey also possessed healing powers, and his initials were JC, which should ring a bell. I have not watched the movie, but I am certain Gatormb chose John Coffey as his avatar because he saw a clear resemblance to Jesus Christ in John Coffey’s character. He told me this himself. If Gatormb were here in this thread he would be very excited to tell you why he chose John Coffey as his avatar, and he’d attempt to use that as a segway to evangelize to you about who Jesus was and what He accomplished. That is who Gatormb was. He was constantly thinking about creative ways to strike up conversations with people about Jesus, and his choice of an avatar is a reflection of that. People are often put off by people who are like Gatormb in that regard, but when you pause and deeply consider death and an appointment at the judgment seat awaiting every single one of us where we must give an account and answer for a lifetime of accumulated sins…you come to realize that talking about these things with people is one of the most loving things a person can do.
Mike was a very generous man. I have literally sat in his seats in The Swamp. (2008 UCSe game). He was a generation older than me but treated me as if I was his peer. I consider him a friend. He is one of the few people on GC that I have ever met in person and one of only a couple who I have their number in my phone. A text after a game was not unheard of and it generally evolved into discussions about our families or work. I lost regular contact with him a couple years back, but I know he was a devout follower of Jesus and beloved by his family. Even in the debates here he never lost his edgy sense of humor with those he disagreed with. He did leave during the time of the exodus, but he didnt take residence at that other site and he did not really leave for the same reasons. Out of respect for him, that is all I will share. Godspeed Mike Brady. We will see you again brother.
Fun fact. Mike (Brady) and his wife Carol, shared the same names as Mike and Carol Brady of the Brady Bunch.
I think this was who I was thinking of, he definitely started a lot of religious threads back in the day. Now I'm wondering who the "get to the chopah" guy was. RIP.
