I think that's what he meant. He's right, you know!
This is true, but I think it’s also fair to point out that our last class suffered from this issue in excess of what’s to be expected.
Ehh let's pump the breaks on catching UGA. They sit at 14 commits and will try to close with:
Jordan Burch (nobody really knows. Some say USCe, some say Clemson, but UGA is trying)
Arian Smith (i think he's overrated, but whatever)
Gibbs (if they offer, people believe he'll jump to go there)
Darnell Washington (Tennessee, UGA, Miami battle)
I remember Gerry Faust signed 7 highly rated QBs on year it was hailed as the greatest recruiting class of all time. The class ended up sucking because he signed the highest rated guys on his board without looking at position.
I have always argued that you can tell a lot more about how good a kid is by his offer list than star ratings.
I'll tell you what really impresses me already about this class. Outside of the punter, I believe every single one of the commits has a rather impressive offer list, with multiple strong P5 offers.
Under McElwain, even though some guys had decent 3-4 star ratings, you'd look at their offer list and they were mostly from smaller non-P5 schools.
7 DBs so far. Wow. We will see if they all sign. I was hoping we get 5 so good.
5 DL- good!
Onward and Upward...
He is overrated. He's not bad, but he's no where near the top 40 WRs in the country. The Dreadnaughts seem to be much more run-focused with Demarkcus Bowman and Chayil Garnett (especially after breaking his throwing hand). They averaged less than 80 passing yards a game. Yes, Smith it athletic. Everyone from Lakeland is.
He's heavily recruited because of Bowman and the 2021 guys, IMO.
I don't know that I would say it that definitively. However, Mario Williams in the '21 class is ranked a little higher, but there is no comparison between the two. Regardless of speed, you would take MW over AS any day of the week. AS is good, and MW is elite.
Not so quietly anymore
Aren't we also in really good standing with Mario Williams? I believe I've seen him mentioned a few times as a Gator lean!
Most star ratings are based on the offer lists.
If these "analysts" at these services knew anything more about talent than recruiters, they would be recruiters and not "analysts".
The result is a form of confirmation bias, if Saban or the ever so good looking Kirby were recruiting, lets say, Pee Wee Herman at left tackle, we would be a five star.
Very similar to Muschamp classes when he was here. I always thought he was incredibly overrated as a recruiter for that very same reason.
Run!!! I hear the sirens of the grammar police. Car 51, we have a code "Spell check" offense in progress.
Who is this Mario Williams kid? And do you have film on him?
"Ignant" is how Chris Rock says it.
I guess now it has some legitimacy then.
There is hudl of highlights.
My concern is not what UGH-a is doing, because Mullen has proven he can do way more with way less! In 2019, he achieved more with a backup quarterback than most coaches could have hoped to achieve! Imagine what Mullen could have done with Fromm at Florida? The Dawgs should be dominating with their talent, but they are not that great. Three years ago, we had no idea that Mullen would have two back to back winning seasons. The recruits are starting to realize what Mullen can do, and recruiting will only get better in the future!
Well, speak for yourself. I predicted back to back 10 win seasons so far.
