Trask is wrong for Mullen but perhaps his most productive qb.

If a 6-3 247 pounder can’t throw 50 yards should he be playing ? I could manage that as a 6-0 150 lb. wishbone QB in high school.

Look at who the QB coach is people. It’s a damn JV staff. He needs to get healthy and he needs better coaching.

If he stays he needs real competition and hopefully the next coach provides that.

Lagway hasn’t played good enough to keep the backup from at least getting a series to shake things up. I am of the mindset if DJ is missing reads or open receivers in a game over and over that another qb should get a series or two to see how they can do.

next year will be an open competition under the new head coach with whatever QBs are on the roster.

For a QB who was hyped to be a Heisman winner, or at least in the running, DJ has been a huge disappointment in my mind. One of the worst performing QB’s in my memory considering the hype. Sorry guys, I think we need to move on. If we don’t have one who the coach will give a shot next game, we need to hit the portal hard.

  7. This happens rather often. Here is one list of the biggest 5-star busts in college football, with most being a Gatorade player of the year or US Army All-American out of high school. Lagway still has time to avoid getting on this list.
    1. Malachi Nelson, USC 2023. College career passer rating of 92.1. Failed to make the starting lineup at USC, Boise State, and UTEP.
    2. Ryan Periloux, LSU 2005. College career passer rating of 99.4. Transferred to Jacksonville State.
    3. Ben Olson, BYU 2004. College career passer rating of 98.6. Often injured. Transferred to UCLA.
    4. Hunter Johnson, Clemson 2017. College career passer rating of 101.2. Lost to Trevor Lawrence, transferred to Northwestern and tossed lots of INTs.
    5. Mitch Mustain, Arkansas 2006. College career passer rating of 105.2. Touted as one of the greatest high school QBs ever. Transferred to USC.
    6. Rhett Bomar, Oklahoma 2004. College career passer rating of 110.2. Dismissed from NCAA.
    7. Dayne Crist, Notre Dame 2008. College career passer rating of 110.9. Transferred to Kansas.
    8. Max Browne, USC 2013. College career passer rating of 117.8. Lost to Kessler and Darnold, transferred, and was benched at Pitt.
    9. Kyle Wright, Miami 2003. College career passer rating of 125.1.
    10. Jeff Driskel, Florida 2011. College career passer rating of 124.5. Often injured. Transferred to Louisiana Tech and improved his performance.
DJ Lagway has a career passer rating of 141.7 in a season and a half of play. He is one coach (and possibly one surgery) away from turning this around and not showing up on the list.

If a coach goes to the big boosters and asked for millions to sign a 5 star "can't miss" QB and he under performs, is he now forced to play said QB and try and make it work? Or does he play the next guy and look stupid and loose all credibility with the boosters?

This is an NIL issue I never thought of. Seems like NIL should be tied to revenue only with contracts or it is just going to fail eventually.

I agree it should be performance based only.

Oh, yeah? Count your ten fingers backwards and once you finish with one hand, add that number to the last 5 fingers... tell me what that come out to. Lol j/k.

  13. NIL and coaching contracts should both be performance-based contracts, but they are not because there is no enforcement mechanism to make it so. NCAA bylaws were written by the same kind of lawyers who write contracts for agents like Jimmy Sexton.

As long as boosters are getting fleeced for the players payroll , that's what it is, the schools are fine with it.

    Is there an upside?

  17. I guess there is a 1% chance that Lagway goes off in the next few games at 22 of 30 for 300 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT per game for a passer rating of 172, and winning each of those games just to get to the Heisman invitation at 7-5. To win the Heisman there is a less than 1% chance that he he goes 22 of 30 for 420+ yards and 5 TDs a game to get o a 197 passer rating to top Julian Sayin. The top 3 QBs by passer rating--Julian Sayin (Ohio State), Fernando Mendoza (Indiana), and Dante Moore (Oregon) will also have CFP berths to help their Heisman campaigns. It would be hard to put Florida in the CFP at 7-5 without a bunch of chaos--if you believe that is what it takes to win the Heisman.

  18. There are weirdos who like this era of college football. Some of them like that this looks like the NFL. Some think this changes the variables to get a national championship for new programs.

What i do like is that indiana could dit insted of five teams buying all the talent and watching the same teams compete for a title every year. This system has created a much more competitive landscape.

    Good info….
Just a note Jeff Driskell has managed to be good enough to still be in the NFL after all this time. Last I read, he was on the Arizona roster.
