Things like camping on campus have been banned for a long time. Things like "amplified sound" require approval in advance. These are not new things. But I thought the whole point of protests was to violate rules to cause disruption? Which is it? Is it just about having a safe space for free speech or are you looking to cross boundaries for the point of disruption? There is no safe space for disruption; that's kind of the point of a protest is you push the envelope past the point of merely having a safe space to express your views. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
You're conflating protest with civil disobedience in an attempt to make excuses for UF's bad behavior.
Really? Has he come out of DeSantis' arse yet? No one has seen the mental midget doing anything in over a year? I just figured his head was still stuck at this point.
I only knew about this superficially but man is that messed up. Read this today How derailed commencement led to ‘complete disaster’ 12 days that rocked USC How derailed commencement led to ‘complete disaster’ - Tampa Bay Times
it’s also worth considering the psychological impact of having an Emory-like event at Uf. I’m typically very first amendment but I totally get admins desire to prevent a bad scene like at osu or Emory or Columbia etc. at Uf.
Trying to prevent it by these methods more often than not makes it worse and damages the institution more
If there is no intent to disrupt, then what rules do you find problematic? They are allowed to peacefully protest like what happens on campus on a somewhat regular basis (including protesting the hiring of Ben Sasse where properly registered voice amplifiers were permitted). Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Also with respect, the problem is the escalation ladder. Once you start down the road of saying that it's unacceptable and that you will use the criminal law to stop it, you usually end up there anyway. Better to only use the criminal law for things that are clearly criminal and for which you would have public support for enforcing criminally. But besides the identity of these particular university officials, university officials Nationwide are feeling the pressure from Congress and from funders to make sure this type of message is not permitted
There is absolutely no cause for these anti-semites to generate excess noise, disrupt classes, disrupt traffic flow, or create tent cities, especially on public property. Those activities infringe upon the rights of law abiding Americans who are simply not interested in supporting terrorist group like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Iranian government…… all of whom may be providing support to the anti-semites.
