Yep, it’s tough all over. My girlfriend’s son got his engineering degree and started working a couple of years ago. He can barely afford a starter house. Kids that have regular jobs are up against it pretty hard these days.

Buy number one classes is the top answer on the board.

But it does and it will be legal soon. This chirade is insulting.

Maybe....I doubt its "soon" though. And fyi, that NIL charade will still be fully in play cause its not going away. And UF isn't giving a dime to the UAA for paying players, nor should they.

What in the name of God are you babbling about?!?! Totally clueless nonsense.

The students that perhaps study the things you mention are doing that as part of their course work--not acting as agents for UF as a for profit real estate development company--which it is not

While UF is not a real estate development company, it does sometimes acquire limited properties for various uses outside of the original campus to further UF's needs. UF most certainly has no obligation or responsibility--or mission from the state- to meddle in the Gainesville real estate market or to act as a for profit developer therein, nor does it have authority to provide affordable housing to Alachua County. It's only mission re: housing is to provide it to students. Private developers do the rest.

You seem to totally misunderstand the difference between private development and UF's role as a land grant university.

The place where we must not go does not necessarily agree with the premise of this thread. I went there once and arrived safely back here without damage.

It was a disappointing hire for a university as prestigious as UF. I'm not close enough to things to judge what he's done so far.

The UAA has plenty to float their own boat as soon as it’s legal.. Nil is here to stay but locking it to a team will stem all this portal crap.

Reminded me of a recent story about AZ suing Realpage for landlord price fixing. I think the number was a 78% increase in rent in the Phoenix area in just the past few years. The crap they are pulling would make the mafia jealous.

The selection of Sasse was a surprise to me at the time but it looks like a pretty inspired choice right now. Kudos to him.

Then I'm afraid you don't know how NIL is structured or works.....and I doubt many college presidents are going to divert academic funds into NIL lol

  16. I am surprised this thread has remained in the football section and has not been moved to “Too Hot”. I will say that the business and cultural alignment among Ben Sasse, Scott Stricklin, Billy Napier, the boosters, and now NIL has been good for Florida football.

    I read Sasse's book "Them" in 2019.
While yes he was a Republican senator from Nebraska, the book is not political. (not much anyway.)
It is thoughtful and compassionate and talks a lot about the root cause of political discord in our country. (Loneliness.)

IF anyone wants to know more about this amazing man, please read it.
While I'm conservative, my father, who "has never voted for a Republican president" as he puts it, absolutely loved the book and recommended it to others.

I was so excited when Sasse became UF President, but he has exceeded even my high expectations.

The positive attention UF is receiving because of the serious and appropriate response to recent activities across the country is only good for everything associated with our school, including our sports teams. The positive comments are coming from many disparate voices. I have even seen Dawgs, Vols and Noles saying "Go Gators" in the comments below Friday's editorial by President Sasse. I am not sure Miami grads read responsible publications so I haven't noted their views. I am hopeful students there see that contentious issues can be confronted without impermissible rhetoric or behavior. I like the emphasis on merely enforcing already-agreed-upon codes in the student and faculty handbook.
