    From Steve Stricklin’s earlier statement:
“However, hosting fans for an intra-squad spring football scrimmage seems unwise given all circumstances, including the fact that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is being used as a large scale COVID testing and vaccination site.”

Oklahomer could be the big shots this year. We helped them look like world-beaters in our bowl game. But... they really are good. Great corch and also a very balanced team. Beat Bammer good? Maybe.

I'd put us more like 12th or somewhere in there. This is what happens when you fail miserably in a bowl game that supposedly means nothing.

We could be pretty decent this year. Hard to get a read on all this just yet...

    Go Gators.

It’s all conjecture until the games are played. Seems to take two thirds of the season to establish consistency to determine who looks the part and that doesn’t account for upsets in games that will still be played to finish the season.

I’m not going to say I like our chances against Alabama but by the time we play a few variables might make it interesting.

I hated watching the Cotton Bowl, but c'mon, Marco Wilson, David Reese, Ventrell Miller, Shawn Davis, Jeremiah Moon, Marlon Dunlap, and Rashad Torrance did not play. That's just the players I remember. You take a defense that was statistically one of the worst in program history and you remove starters at safety, corner, linebacker and defensive tackle, you're going to play worse than if we had substituted-in UCF's defense. Nevermind that Trask was without every single starting receiver and Pitts. If you look at the participation chart, true freshmen and redshirt freshmen accounted for more than 40% of the snaps.

In hindsight, undrafted Trevon Grimes opting out of the game was a microcosm of the attitude the team had with the Cotton Bowl. I'll always consider that game the most expensive scrimmage in program history.

Oklahoma routinely goes to the playoffs every year and they routinely get their stool pushed in because they're not elite.

Last year was just a bad dream all around. Defense was hard to watch. A&M was so winnable, LSU was a debacle of biblical proportions. Almost beat the best team in the land and then everyone bails. We play Oklahomer and Trask even looks like he was on moonshine. Covid, reshuffling schedules. Then no spring game. A flicker of light-all the guys getting drafted. Trask, round II.

4-5 games in we should be getting a feel...Man, I sure hope they fill the stadiums. EJ...he fits Mullen's mold...stay tuned.

You won't find many preseason prognosticators picking Florida to repeat as SEC East champions this season, but Dan Mullen likes it that way. The more bulletin board material helping create a "why not us" narrative, the better. He'd much rather be flying under the radar as a preseason Top 15 team this time of year than the latter. Kadarius Toney, Kyle Pitts, Kyle Trask ... all of those heavy contributors are off to the NFL as the Gators reload offensively. Todd Grantham faces an important campaign as defensive coordinator. Another disappointing season and he's likely on the way out of Gainesville.

The Gators are coming off their first SEC East title 2016, but coach Dan Mullen’s team has a lot of work to do in order to get back to Atlanta in December. An offense that averaged 7.3 yards per play and 39.8 points a game has to replace quarterback Kyle Trask (4,283 yards and 43 TDs) and receivers Kadarius Toney (70 catches), Trevon Grimes (38), and tight end Kyle Pitts (43). Emory Jones is the front-runner to replace Trask, with Anthony Richardson also in the mix. Jones brings a different skill set to the offense, but Mullen’s track record shows there won’t be a drastic drop in production. Clemson transfer (and former five-star recruit) Demarkcus Bowman will push for snaps in a talented backfield. The line will need to be retooled with two starters off to the NFL. The Gators hope to get back on track defensively after surrendering 6.1 yards per play and 30.8 but question marks remain. Tackle Kyree Campbell and cornerback Marco Wilson are off to the NFL and more help is needed at linebacker. Cornerback Kaiir Elam and linemen Brenton Cox Jr. and Zachary Carter will lead the effort for improvement next fall, while Penn State transfer Antonio Shelton is a big boost to the interior. Florida gets Alabama and is on the road against LSU in crossover play with the SEC West but also faces trips to Missouri and Kentucky. The annual showdown versus Georgia takes place on Oct. 30 in Jacksonville.
