Or even Tennessee keeping us to 10 points in 2009.
Thing is, the SEC has soooo much more cachet now than even when SOS roamed our sidelines. No disrespect to the Big Blue of years past, but even Kentucky gets Players now. Kids want to play in this conference. Everyone has talent. Not everyone has Bama talent, and I suppose Georgia talent, but, there are no off weeks for everyone else.
A lot of it is depth. For a brief window, we were the elite Bama program. Difference being, depth. We don't have that depth yet, a stable of faster, bigger, gifted interior players that keeps you humming along.
Coaching is elite also. And....I realize some will take issue on Muschamp, but I'd contend he has a fine staff over there in Columbia, and they've done a nice job in the division. No one is an easy W. I'll even go out on a limb and say the East is equal, maybe better than the West overall.
You're right. I was using Towson as an example (out of schedule context), but I messed up and thought Mizzou was right after UGA again.
That said, Mizzou on 11/16 is not a pretty picture for our sweet summer children. Foley made sure to move the UK games to earlier in the schedule and now we have this weird mess. Last year on the 16th the low was 36.
VU is definitely the biggest "trap" game. Gonna be tough playing corndogs in BR right after a big game with AU though. UT or UK are possible overconfidence games. Hopefully the revenge factor will help with the UK game. I think we'll be motivated for Mizzou.
First- strongly agree.
Second- I went through the SEC schedule and looked at who each of our opponents play before we play them.
Tennessee plays no one before us- 3 home games vs easier teams. We have UK at UK. They get an advantage.
Auburn plays both TAMU and State in the 2 weeks prior to us. We have a big advantage there, IMO.
LSU has a bye and then Utah State before we play them. We have Auburn. Big ad to LSU. That looks like an impossible win, to be honest.
Good news- USC and Mizzou play UGA the week before we do. That should help us.
This is why I think UT is the biggest trap game. They can circle us, so to speak, while we have circled Miami and UK.
I think the reason they beat us is because Missouri is the definition of a trap game. Our guys have never taken them seriously, for some reason.
So much this.
2006 UF struggled with Kentucky, Vandy, SC, and Georgia, and none of those teams were that good. The 2019 and 2006 teams actually have a TON in common on paper, but it's just that the 2006 team had better QB play...
Haha, at this point we are THEIR trap/letdown game!
Uh, how do you know that? Are you a Nostradamus descendant?
fair I guess franks could be better than UF's all team leading passer...
Easily. Leak wasn't that great IMO. Surrounded by a crapload of talent in 2006 and had a great D. I would bet a whole lot of money that FF plays in more NFL games than Leak too.
Pretty similar stats for 3rd year players in a new system. Leak had more yards, Franks had more touchdowns. Franks had more total yards than Leak, but also played one more game than 2005. Completion percentage not too far off, but Leak was more accurate--which is to be expected given his history versus Franks's relative inexperience.
By that logic you would take Errict Rhett over Emmitt Smith. Not really a bad choice, but one had more yards because they started for an additional season.
If Danny Wuerffel didn't spilt time with Dean in 93/94 this would not be a talking point.
Ok to be fair I just like leak better, but I guess we shouldn’t make comparisons until franks career is complete.
That is definitely fair.
I was thinking yesterday our schedule is at least as difficult as last season. Auburn for Homecoming? If CDM can pull off another three loss season with big bowl win I will be impressed.
