Not the issue. The issue was Billy ran a play that worked great, and he didn’t call it again for the remainder of the game. He had plays that got blown up and he used them repeatedly with similar results. It’s questioning the thought process behind Billy’s play calling. I remember the LSU game we lost where we couldn’t stop a LSU counter play, and they kept running it the entire game and won. Other coaches force the defense to show they can stop a play, while Billy stops calling plays that work for no apparent reason. We could be gashing the defense with the run, and Billy calls three straight passes and the drive stalls. The opposing defense stacks the box, and he calls run plays. The opposing defense has a light box, and he calls pass plays.
We are littered with young talent, most i've seen in a while. Please Billy... get an OC and a official sideline time clock manager.
What is so frustrating is that Billy shows us he can do this. In our last 4 SEC games he is 3-1. All against ranked teams (3 in top 10) With the only loss being a close one at #3 LSU. But he loses to USF? In The Swamp? He can't be consistent. He called an OK game Saturday, but may very well revert this Saturday. It isn't what he is capable of that upsets many of us. He has some big wins. It's the fact that his teams have no consistent outcomes. And he reverts to his bad self far too often. A guy like Lane would have us 5-0 right now.
He won't stick to what works. Maybe he's paranoid about using the same play over and over again and wants to catch the opposing team by surprise, but it just fails. I remember Muschamp's last year when he finally beat UGA. We ran up all over the Dawgs. Kelvin Taylor and Matt Jones had something like 200 yds rushing each. Treon only passed for like 30 yards. Let's do that
Agree on all points. Imagine for a moment DJ was good to go in spring and stayed 100% we'd likely be 5-0. Frustrating!
This is so binary that it’s absurd. I was at the game Cheering - so a good fan in your eyes. And I think BN should be fired this year - period. I’ve given the reasons many times (time management, penalties, confusion, predictable plays, etc). But worst of all, Billy not hiring an oc was selfish and destructive. Like many Gator fans, I can hold two competing thoughts in my head at the same time: I want us to win games and I am damn near positive that the quicker we move on from BN, the sooner we recover from his losing record. Let’s stop the bipolar bad fan/sunshine pumper tropes.
Likely, last year's result is the high water mark for him. Wash, rinse, and repeat is about all there is.
Indeed, very frustrating. The way I see it, - that was a nice win. Napier got himself an extension for at least another week. Coach Roberts has the defense playing very competitive football and UF has some talent on offense. But one must ask, how good is Texas? Forget the preseason rankings and the Manning last name. The Horns have lost to a very good Ohio State team and UF on the road. Sandwiched in between are three wins against non competitive teams. They could easily lose to Oklahoma, who is without Mateer. The Horns are very young, and I think the hype was premature, perhaps next year they live up to the billing. Your point about being 3-1 in the last 4 SEC games is valid of course. However those three wins are at the Swamp. That of course is cherry picking this years reality of 2-3. Until Saturday the offense did not have a pulse and I don't consider the LIU game worth discussing. The other sad realities are 21-22 which is unacceptable at Florida. Napier comes out of the gate slow EVERY YEAR, The road record under Napier is disgusting. The "rivals" record under Napier is disgusting. The other aspect of Napier's coaching is he just can't seem to put decent teams away, and that was once again demonstrated against Texas. UF dominated in most, if not all statistical categories, whipped TX at the line of both scrimmages and yet Texas was "alive" right until the end. UF should have had at least 36, if not more points given the physical domination. Napier needs to learn how to put the hammer down when the opportunities present themselves. Another point of concern, which is cherry picking on my part, but Texas "blew" (2) TD opportunities with bad throws to wide open receivers that would have been scores. I applaud UF for winning the game, I do, but this was a perfect trap game for a not so good Longhorn team IMO. Let's see what happens at TAMU, once again DJL is hurt and limited, I hope Napier will prepare a backup to come in. You can be sure TAMU watched the Texas film and saw DJL hobbling around. So much for a QB that was once billed as "Dual-Threat". Oddly, UF just might be in control of it's destiny "STILL". The schedule offers plenty of opportunity for UF to not only get in the thick of the SEC race, but even the playoffs, but that of course would imply running the table. Frankly speaking, and given the staffs ability, (especially the OC's) to play with a pulse on the road, I imagine that "dream" will come to a crushing end next Saturday in College Station. At least the defense gives UF a chance in the coming contests, and if Napier has any brains, he schemes the offense to throw the rock frequently and without hesitation to VB3 and Wilson. IMO, should Billy coach out the rest of the season, I suspect the team will struggle mightily to finish 6-6 and become bowl eligible. That's what I put the ceiling at considering Napier's road woe's. Just my opinion of course. Hope I am proven very wrong, starting at TAMU, win there, and my optimism may go up a notch. Go Gators whip TAMU!
We could say that about every season with every coach. The final analysis is scoreboard, and the coaching staff is responsible for it, unless a player absolutely stinks it up with critical fumbles, repeated burns by WRs or 4+ INT games.
The lack of acknowledgement for how loud the swamp is gets old. Malzahn had back to back games at Florida and LSU and even said the noise in death valley wasnt as bad as it was at the swamp when auburn played Florida under mullen. Just a ridiculous list
Just for clarity, I wasn't cherry picking for the point of promoting Billy as much as pointing out his inconsistency. 3 very nice wins in the last 4 SEC games don't really prove much when you add it to the points you make.
After reading the Texas board this morning, I have to agree. reading other boards can be instructive. Not going to kick our fans much anymore.
