I wondered the same thing. I thought he was going to say “so I’m rooting for Billy.” I know I am despite our issues. You cannot deny the talent he has amassed. It would be a shame to start over and break everything up. I pull for all our coaches until they are actually fired. I pulled for Dickey and I pulled for Zook . Maybe I’m just a hopeless romantic Go Gators “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
1. We should be relevant in all years 2. We should be in the hunt for the playoffs nearly every year (eg top 25) 3. We should make the playoffs 50% of the time. We can debate if it should be closer to 1 in 3 4. A legit run in the playoffs 25% of years. I’m defining this by getting to the second round 5. Legit contender 20% of the time. I’m calling this a strong case you are top 5. At that point anything can happen. I’m not going to blame a coach that gets us top 5 and in the final four, and loses a nail biter. Are these expectations too high for the flagship school in Florida?
Woulda Coulda Shoulda McClain will improve. We need depth though. Losing Gates hurts. Nah. Defense has earned trust.
It comes with age... And you're right. A losing record is worse than mediocre. It is BAD. Vandy is 19-24 during that span, and they have nowhere near our talent, except, of course, for Pavia. Looking at the SEC since 2022: Georgia.......43-5 Alabama.....36-9 Ole Miss.....34-10 Tennessee...34-10 Texas.........35-12 LSU............33-12 Mizzou.......32-12 Oklahoma...27-17 Texas A&M..25-18 USCe..........25-18 Florida......21-22 Arkansas.....20-23 Kentucky.....20-23 Miss State...20-23 Auburn........19-23 Vandy..........19-24 I can't imagine a Gator fan alive outside Billy's own family that would even suggest he stay. He's got to go, and should have been shown the door earlier. I don't care if he DOES run the table. And for comparison: Zook...........23-14 (.622) --- 16-8 in SEC Muschamp...28-21 (.571) --- 17-15 in SEC McElwain.....22-12 (.647) --- 16-8 in SEC Mullen.........34-15 (.694) --- 16-10 in SEC Napier..........21-22 (.488) --- 11-15 in SEC
If he does, he will also have a CFB/NFL Hall of Fame career... But I doubt it. He can run better than his uncles and like his grandpa, but his passing skills are more like his father...
I can't argue with that. It is VERY reasonable. The "flagship" thing, however, is no longer relevant. Players don't care.
That’s football. If every team had a super human QB who could see and make every throw, defenses wouldn’t look very good. But QB’s are human and don’t naturally see everything and then when you are able to pressure them, they perform even worse. That’s why pass rushers are some of the highest paid players in the NFL.
Because the win, although a big win, still exposes all the bad things we continue to have issues with. I was really happy once the clock hit zero and celebrated, but shortly after reality set in. It’s Fools gold. Did the team play well? For the most part they absolutely did. But the whole 4th quarter was full of the typical boneheaded stuff we deal with every week via offensive coaching.
Flagship means we should have top 10 quality resources. If we cannot translate that into success then it’s either a coaching or admin problem.
DJ’s quick release was a huge factor yesterday. Anybody questioning whether or not we have the right QB in there had their question answered yesterday.
Just finished watching the replay. Amazing how our defense shut down the Texas running game. Manning rushed for 37 yards. The rest of the longhorn offense collectively rushed for 15 yards. Great defensive performance
