Many folks are missing the point. Even if the 4th quarter didn't happen, no one here is defending Billy or thinks he should stay. For me, a Gator fan can:

    * Celebrate our upset win over a team that was perceived as better than we are, and

    * Even give Billy credit for putting together a great gameplan to enable us to win.

It changes NOTHING about his future viability at Florida. We ALL agree we need a better coach. The problem is that so many are loathe to give Billy credit for ANYTHING! It's the tired refrain of "If we win it is in SPITE of him. If we lose, it is BECAUSE of him." Once a coach or coordinator ("Fire Hoke!) gets the goat horns, nothing he can do is any good, which is the ongoing narrative of "Fire _____!!"

My first game in almost six years (I work Sunday mornings) and we had a great time. I expected our defense to play well but I had zero expectation of the offense playing as well as they did. Especially the OL which absolutely dominated their DL. Best game of the year from them by far. Many positives, including two of the best freshman receivers we've had in a long time. VB3 is terrific and Dallas was worth the wait. I can't say I understood the rotation between Baugh and Duke, but both ran very well until late when we were clearly just trying to eat clock.

Manning was harassed nearly every snap and even when he had time, had nowhere to go and eventually got pulled down. Yes, there was a few close calls with open receivers, but the D was excellent from start to finish. Manning was their entire running game, and even that was off of maybe two long scrambles. Maybe on TV he looked like he was figuring things out in the second half, but live he looked lost the entire time. And the crowd was in it to win it from the beginning and stayed that way the entire game. Was really a blast. Totally unexpected but a great outcome nonetheless.

Talked to a few Longhorn fans afterward and they were all very gracious and said how much they'd enjoyed the atmosphere and the entire gameday experience.

Im talking about the intentional offside Texas had with over 2 mins left. Texas wanted to give us a first down. It was 2nd and 1. If we get a first down in actually play we can pretty much run the clock out.

Sark did an intentional offside to give us a first down which gave Texas a chance to get the ball back.

Having a 22-23 record over 4 seasons is the definition of mediocrity. Not being in the hunt for the SEC title after your previous two coaches were fired after making the SEC title game is mediocrity. Losing to USF is mediocrity. If Napier was turning the corner and learning from his mistakes, then you would have a point. But his end of half game management is just a bad now as it was in year one.

Case in point is the end of the first half yesterday. It is 2nd and long for Texas inside their 20, we get a stop with 55 seconds left, and then he lets 10 seconds run off the clock before calling a TO with 42 seconds on the clock. The defense then sacks Manning inside the 5 yard line and the clock runs out. We had a chance to force Texas to punt from their 2 yard line and potentially steal 3 points, and his continued lack of time management acumen allowed Texas to wriggle off the hook.

  6. That is not what I said...I clearly stated that as fans we 'Want' to win championships (like all fans).

Now follow along closely, so I don't lose you and take a big breath ...My second separate statement was that we do not accept mediocrity (a 22-23
record 4 seasons in doesn't even qualify as 'mediocre').

You and Wingnut both obviously have basic comprehension issues.

Different things. I believe it all falls on one person. The A.D. maneuvered to save himself, IMO, and a decision that was supposed to have happened last year was stalled long enough to be miraculously dodged by him and he winds up with a contract extension instead of the expected consequences of hiring multiple failed football coaches . . . the kiss of death for an A.D. in the SEC . A ridiculous buyout the A.D. gave further worked to insulate HIM. The Bull Gators absolutely have not settled for nor accepted mediocrity. Now we have almost a full on media blitz with pictures of that "conquering" A.D. when he has been in witness protection for the last few weeks.

Thank you for the clear simple explanation. But sadly the blind rage on this board towards our coach does not allow for your point of view I’m ashamed to say.

“Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”

I have mixed feelings about the win. Of course I root for us to win however a loss may have accelerated BN's firing.
Talent wise we could win the majority of the remaining games but BNs coaching and game day decisions could cost us a few games.
If we manage a 6-6 season I'm really afraid SS will not fire Billy. I'm not happy with that but should that happen SS has to force BN to hire an OC. But even then Billy will pick someone who thinks like him.
Did i mention i'm loving basketball more and more.

Thanks. I don't know how these ratings are given but would have thought Graham would be higher. He was a beast. Also, Manning may need some kind of therapy because of Jayden Woods, who isn't even on their chart.

The ball comes out of his hand so softly and he holds on to it for way too long. We were just waiting for the picks, given the pressure and his poor talent.

I was talking to a Texas fan at the game (they were great by the way). He said “Arch Manning gets more grief because of his name and expectations.“ I responded “turn that around and I don’t think he is recruited by any major school if he doesn’t have that last name. He is just not that talented.“ at the end of the game, he said “you may be right.“

As for the dynamic of losing accelerating a new coach, I think the answer is clear. You always call for gator wins as a fan. And it is unfathomable that Billy’s shortcomings over 3 1/2 years (and likely screw ups going forward) do not lead to his firing at the end of this year. I will want us to win every game- while objectively knowing that is highly, highly improbable and not in the best interest of the program long-term. I can square that circle for now.

We played like we did against LSU and Ole miss last year. It was fun and even less in doubt than those games. Too bad we didn't start the year that way. It's on DJ and the Oline IMO. For whatever reasons, including coaching probably.

If DJ is healthy enough and the Oline keeps improving we can end up at 6-6 or better. Yay!

Disagree. Having a 22-23 record at this stage is BAD, especially considering the talent. Many here, however, still cling to the belief that SOS and Meyer are the basic standard. They are both Hall of Fame coaches, which are few and far between. Would people complain if we had a head coach that consistently went 10-3, with an occasional 12-1 and an occasional 8-5? Most years, we are competing for SEC and MNCs. How about someone like Mike Gundy about a decade ago? Or Bo Pelini at Nebraska? Husker fans complained that he wasn't Osborne and got rid of him. "He always (hyperbole) loses big games! He always gets stomped by teams no better than us! It just CAN'T get any worse! We will not tolerate mediocrity! We are NEBRASKA!!"

Since Pelini (67-27, .713), Nebraska had three head coaches, with a cumulative record of 54-70 (.435) over the past 11 years. Compared to that, how many Nebraska fans wished Pelini was back? Of course, there is that contingent that thought Frank Solich, 58-19 (.753) sucked and will accept nothing less than Dr. Tom, 255-49-3, (.836).
