The one thing I've noticed, that no one has really talked about, is that most of the players that've been brought in through the portal have 2+ years of eligibility left and developmental upside. Outside of Singleton, one of the Safety's, & a D-lineman I believe, the majority of these guys have 2-4 years of eligibility and are not fully developed. At the same time, all of them have production ie garnered playing time already at their previous schools. I really like the job the coaches & scouts have done and feel like the ceiling of these players is higher than their portal ratings.
Just read that this kid has flipped to Colorado and won't be coming to UF. The same article stated the Gators got a commitment from a Kicker from Texas A&M. Looks like the visits from those 2 other D-lineman are still on and even more crucial.
Simmons committed to Oregon. Only guy left is Clinton and he’s not a Nose at 300. Boireau loss looming even more now. Gotta hope Indiana or Miami has someone enter. The guys we were going after an end losing out on were not 4-5 star guys and really didn’t contribute much to their teams. Puzzling to think we could not pick up 1-2 nose tackles that could give us 35 snaps a game combined. Not sure where other snaps would have come from, maybe Lyons, but we needed 2 rotational guys bad to eat snaps.
I would have preferred we got two 325+ guys, but we have a lot of numbers at DT for rotation. Guervil will likely be a 325+ guy but likely not getting a lot of snaps next year. Heavy rotation can help a bit for lack of size. Lyons could hold his own pretty well at nose.
Yeah, I see Lyond at 318. Might need 325-330 but I’d agree he could hold his own but that’s for 25-35 snaps a game. Assuming there is 60-70 snaps a game and he’s not be in on true known passing downs going by down and distance ( 15 snaps) we have to find someone else that can hold their own for 20-25 snaps a game. Maybe the new guy but he’s light for nose.
Were going to learn a lot about our SC and nutrition staff between now and kickoff. Bulking up and shedding weight, adding muscle...
Picked up another Tight End from a smaller school with 2 years of eligibility left. Supposedly LSU, Bama, & Kentucky were after him too. Just saw an article about him on the main page. Apologies
UF stuck with the kid when he got in trouble, and he was coming on as a player. But as has been suggested, perhaps it was the money, or a locker room thing. Regardless a bit of a thin position in terms of depth and the staff did not seem to be able to get a solid Portal Replacement. Of course I may be mistaken, we shall see.
