We could have tried to keep Gak who had a great season at a mid-major, and we could have tried to keep Bassett who started for Weber State.

We played Castleton w Payne quite a bit this season and it never looked particularly good.

Who's roster spot would we have given up? Wasn't Castleton the latest addition? We weren't going to dump Appleby or Osifo .

You do it before the fact, not after the fact. White ran those guys off by not playing them. If they had had a regular role on the team, we wouldn’t have needed to sign Lane or Osifo. This has been a pattern for white. Over sign, don’t play several of the 13 guys you have on your team, which then forces them to leave. As we have said many times on these basketball threads, the numbers always work out when we over sign. That’s a lousy way to run a basketball team.

Thanks and you must be right about the timing. Another issue, though, is that this team desperately needed a stretch four (which we would have had in KJ). While the thought of adding Gak or Bassett to the roster would have been interesting, I'm not sure they brought the open court/create your shot ability that we needed.
Will be interesting to see what happens w Scottie and the incoming portal.

If KJ wouldn't have gone down, we would still be playing today

Who knows? As I said before, Castleton had four single-digit scoring games in the four games that he played with KJ. He became a force after KJ’s injury because the offense changed and allowed for him to play down on the low block instead of just getting out of the way of everyone so that the driving lanes would stay open.

Except Jitoboh has half a foot height advantage over Stokes.

Nah, Duruji and Castleton are clearly better players, and Payne is as well. Basset and Gak left because the writing was on the wall, especially Basset with KJ projected to be taking alot of minutes as the small ball 4. Remember that Duruji was here all last year practicing.

As it turned out there might have been some minutes available for Basset, would have been between him and Osifu for 10 minutes or so backing up Duruji at the 4. But he probably wanted more PT than the 10 minutes, nothing wrong with that. He got about 20 minutes per at Weber State.

Either way, these are not things that would change the outcome of our season for the better...

I don't believe that's necessarily the case anymore.

If it is the same site and same insider you are referring to (who I think used to post on this site from time to time as well)...his main mention was that there would be tons of turnover (before anyone announced their transfers)....though this seems something that could be just predictions than inside info but hey, it did and is happening.

the bigger nugget he shared is that he claims White wants out at Florida but his sources claim he won’t get an offer this year that he likes/wants and will be the coach at Florida for next year.

9 of the 10 HS basketball recruits Coach White signed in his first 3 classes (not the first class of Billy verbals he inherited) have now transferred from UF. 90 percent of the first 3 classes of recruits Coach White personally identified and recruited as his type player. Would set any program back with that type of record. We are not talking about departing for the NBA, but transferred to other college basketball programs. Can Coach White fix that?
