We would have to get a lower level guy with experience imo. That or a young inexperienced redshirt freshman/sophomore who hasn't played and realizes they have no future at the next level.

Oxford is cute for about two days,
Was done after 3 could never live there. and I’ve never
Needed to spend more than a night in Texas

Correct. However…these 3 teams were rated 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the total team talent composite. Much easier for an inexperienced qb with a roster loaded with NFL draft picks and make the playoffs. Oregon was in the same boat with a first time qb - they had the 5th most talented roster. Florida does not have that kind of roster.

I think it's going to require another split of Divsion one. Maybe something like a PL/Championship setup.

Waco is 100 miles from Austin and 100 miles from Dallas — and 200 miles from Houston. And 200 miles from San Antonio. It’s in the middle of nowhere

That might be an unspoken theme to the type of players Sumrall and his staff are pursuing. Get good players that can stay healthy and productive. I love it.

You might be on to something. There are so many different scenarios that it's not worth debating, but some dudes will do everything to be on the field. Some dudes prioritize their own health. Some dudes unfortunately are just unlucky. We know Sumrall was a dude that did everything to be on the field - he's probably looking for that trait. (Doesn't mean everyone that gets on our team will have it)

You must be on the field to even begin to be “productive”.

I think lots of analysts/folks here are grasping at the definition of words like ‘potential’ and ‘productive ‘. You might point to one stat or another to bolster your own subjective definition of the words but we just need to trust our coaches have agreed upon what they are looking for that defines it.

For me this is where I see positivity from the big picture RE the direction we are moving and it inspires trust in them. More confidence than some of y’all here choose to bestow yet and that’s good to have to moderate people like me.

If you account for our big time retained players I consider it top 3.

Rare, but we have seen in our lifetimes a 3rd string qb lead a team to a national championship. I expect Griffin will have to do as 3rd string, and he has a lot of talent.

Agree antny. A kid from Defuniak Springs, Kay Stephenson, backed up SOS for 4 years and rarely saw the field. He went undrafted but, still managed to play a couple of years in the old AFL.

I sure hope these GT and Tulane transfers arent brought in to be the coaches safety blankets. We have a bunch of talented guys and they need to be given their opportunity. I cant see Sumrall not making this a war for starting jobs but Im a little gun shy given the way the last guy ran the ship with all his safety blanket coaches.

Shane was 5th String before Spurrier got to UF and Rex backed up Brock Berlin (that one drove me crazy).

Hopefully they don't turn out to be bums like all those JMU guys Cignetti brought to IU. This is already an antiquated way of thinking, this idea that the school that recruited them matters in the equation. This is like the 200th pick passing the 20th pick at the minor league level in baseball. There was one expectation at 18yo, but those are reset once they've reached the AA level.
