In the words of the great NY Met Chico Escuela, “fellows, beisbol have been berry, berry good to you. Cut the crap and play ball!”

I've reached the point where I just want to flush 2020 down the toilet and start over next year. We can either live this life while we have it, or we can spend it in endless disruption and turmoil and end up just as dead. I can't say much else without sending this to Too Hot.

    Ok guys and gals—

Another topic of conversation is on the table—

With COVID 19 cases at best being persistent, and obviously continuing to climb with large portions of the public ignoring the suggested precautions to go out—

MLB 60 game season feasible or with more and more players opting out of playing, what are we really looking at with respect of actually playing over MLB negotiations vs player’s union demands—

Just something else to kick around—

I think it happens personally. Baseball has some big personalities (possibly moreso than the NFL) but I don’t think there are that many Angels fans because of Mike Trout or Dodgers fans because of David Price. This isn’t the NBA.

The owners will save on some big salaries and the fans will watch on TV at a similar or even better level because each game has extra meaning (plus fewer games against the Royals or Padres or Mariners helps too).

    @gtj31

I know it’s just one player, but now that it’s out there that Freddie Freeman/Braves 1st baseman has tested positive with COVID19 I just have to wonder how big of a trickle down effect (because you’ve got to feel like there are others and it’s likely exposures with every club) there will be first to team health, then to control vs spread....

I just get the bad feeling that its full impact has not been felt and it’ll be like trying to play on a field of quicksand.

    Definitely possible.

There have been professional soccer players test positive and those leagues are still continuing.

The vast majority of these athletes are very healthy and will be perfectly fine. Freeman will be down for 1-2 weeks. Might have some remnant tiredness for a month or two. But will be perfectly fine health wise.

I think 40 players can practice, with those not on a roster for a given game, sitting in the stands.

I just hope that each team can get through the season with that number

I sure hope that’s the way it goes. This country could use something positive going on for a change. Wouldn’t it be great if Baseball could play that kind of influence—I’m afraid those issues will fall into completely different parameters though.

If MLB can get this 60 game season rolling I’m thinking like a lot of others it can almost be like a play-off atmosphere with every game carrying its own share of weight.

At this point I am more pessimistic than you Bill @74nole it has a lot to do with our situation in Florida where cases are going up, and it seems like more and more folks are not following the guidelines the players in major sports are generally in good physical health but a small slip up in protocol can devastate a team in nothing flat, same for college sports

Quite honestly I am rooting for a Wally Pip scenario on some of these guys opting out. Not that I blame them for making any decisions I just think the chaos that would follow would be intriguing.
