Perhaps this belongs in another forum but I wanted everyone to see this. I'm probably more a baseball fan than college football fan but it's close. I'm also a die hard Cincinnati Reds fan and the fact they passed on Pete Alonso three times in the draft still makes me scratch my head. I get it they have a guy by the name of Joey Votto there until 2024 but you don't let that stand in your way of taking a potential star. You could see it in college that Pete had all the makings of a future MLB player...how far he would go and how fast was the question. He's certainly answered that but it goes so much further because of acts like this. Huge kudos to you Pete.

Major League Baseball could learn a lot from Pete Alonso's commendable 9/11 act

Don't feel hard against Reds. A LOT of teams passed on him. And I don't think anyone would be being honest if they said they predicted this kind of success for Pete.

I love the rebellious nature of the act, wearing the cleats w/o the approval of MLB. Didn't realize Pete was leading the league in HRs - that's just amazing.

This is true leadership, and a great act of patriotism by a Gator and MLB star.
Mods, I know this is not football, but no one is on the Diamond Boards right now and this deserved attention.

To top it all off.... The Mets ended up winning the game with nine runs on 11 hits in the final hours of September 11.

The Mets tonight have specially designed red, white and blue cleats commemorating the anniversary of 9/11.

The shoes, delivered today to Citi Field, depict images of the American flag, plus the Sept. 11, 2001 date, “We will never forget” and NYPD/FDNY/EMT lettering.

Pete Alonso orchestrated the Mets’ wearing of commemorative 9/11-themed cleats tonight.

He planned it for weeks, ordered & paid for everybody’s shoes and enlisted other clubhouse leaders (including Jacob deGrom) to get everyone on board.

Mets' Pete Alonso defies MLB rules, honors those killed on 9/11
