my guess is we kept him out when we were getting pressed and stayed small (plus the more experienced/composed Blackshear)

Doesn’t explain mass Jitoboh minutes over Payne though. Jason played pretty well, but he shouldn’t be getting more minutes than Payne.

I am guessing the players that played earned it in practice. I am sure if Payne was better he would have been in there.

that's true. maybe he's better at the press break?

Might be something else too, like not practicing well. We know White likes to reward those that practice well with game minutes

Idk...Jitoboh is really a hog in the middle. He changes the way teams attack us.

this is a mystery to me, and im hoping to find out.
jitoboh has a lot of promise, but his foot speed was expolited in the matchups w/ lsu.
on paper- payne wouldve seemed a better option.

That is true. But teams really can break him (and KB) down. That’s why I like Payne. He eliminates mistakes with his ability to close space.

Don’t know what happened in practice or how much that contributed, but Payne’s defensive rotations in game have been really bad. He is going to be good, but for a defensive coach like White he has to know he can trust those guys. Jitoboh was in the right spots tonight, he just got beat.

He's a good help defender, but not great 1:1 because he lacks bulk. In addition I think CW is rewarding Jitoboh for hard work at practice.

I would guess defense. He’s been out of position a lot.

This. This. This. So much of this. Coaches can live with you getting beat because of being slow or a bad matchup. No coach can live with getting beat because of you being lost or effort. Coach Cal yanked a kid from the UF/UK game because he was lost and let Tre bury a 3 against their press.

    Defensively, not offensively.

Jitoboh is really improving. In the right position, runs the floor, really plays solid defense for the most part. 6 points in first half a major plus.

Feel like Bassett and Jitoboh are eating up his minutes. Jitoboh a really solid contributor.

Payne has been the most impressive at times, so his consistency in some area(s) must be the issue.

I assume it stretches back to when his playing time first got reduced and White was complaining after a game around that time that someone (hmmm...?;)) wasn't hustling to set screens and some other things things like that.

You've got to do the "little" things the coaches require even if you can make highlight-reel shot-blocks at times.

Hopefully, Payne is getting whatever messages he needs to get back on the court as much as he should be.

Jitoboh has improved quite a bit over the course of the season but Payne is still the better player in my view. I think JJ's large body had something to do with it last night. LSU went straight at the hoop time and again when we played them in Red Stick.
First big off the bench last night was Dontay, though. He looked better than either of the others so I'm glad to see he must be feeling better.

Heard on a pod the other day that it’s because he supposedly has a tendency to not hustle down the court at times. Although I haven’t noticed this. Was from the Frank Frankie pod so it’s a reputable source

Exactacly, he is timid by nature, so if he is going to take the next step in becoming a good player, he is going to need a phycologist to work with him to focus on what he needs to do when he steps on the court. I have said over and over, he is still growing, it might take a couple more years before he gets comfortable in his body. If only Coach White would let him go to Coach Savage of the football team, let him develop Omar and get in his head, this would help speed his growth! this is not just a thought but a true need for Omar.
