Hmmmm. If you’re a Democrat in Congress you have to consider the strategic implications on the vote to bar Trump from office. His presence will almost certainly divide the right and ensure Democrats remain engaged.

 

Mitch won’t like that. A split party would hurt his chances of getting back to the majority in 2022/24.

 

Flip side of the coin, if you're a republican senator, you might want to vote for banning him from office

 

Would I have to be a Proud Boy, Oath Keeper or Klansman to join? You know - the real patriots.

 

Bonus points for having killed Capitol police officers.

 

Yep. Trump is better for the Democrats than he is for the Republicans. This is their opportunity to take him out of the equation. My guess is they take it.

 

HARD PASS. The last thing I want to see happen is his freakshow further solidified and legitimized in the form of a political party. What if he won again? Seems far fetched right? So did 2016.

 

This effectively makes the existing Republican Party the 3d, more centrist, party which, with moderate Democrats , could become the best alternative for a lot of people.

And Trump will be 75 this year with no real heir apparent who have his marketing skills.

So maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

 

It's all grift. Money that could have gone to the Republican party political causes will be used to line the Trump family and his corrupt friends pockets. Someone has to help Trump with all of the lawsuits coming.

Trump, his kids and his cohorts will use this as a personal slush fund, much the same way they burned through his billion dollar campaign war chest. On the plus side, it's a great way to evict the squatters from the Republican Party.

 

I don't know, couldn't see this party getting more than 5-10% of the vote, and stealing it mostly from the far right wing of the republicans. I wouldn't presume that many republicans would leave their party, or take a step to the left, making them more attractive to dems.

I hope Trump does follow through, but I'm sure it will be based less on political ideology, and more on "All I had to do was say I was running for office, and people sent me like a Billion dollars! It's the greatest scam ever!"
