Yeah, but this isn't isolated to WSU; it's spread to every school with a team... the players are organizing.

If all of the good players left collegiate football and formed a minor league, and the University of Florida fielded a team of small, slow, semi skilled student athletes I would still be in the stands. I love me some Gator football.

Maybe this is what will eventually have to happen to college football.

I’d be all for it. I’d prefer to see a system like baseball anyway.

That's why I wouldn't mind seeing college athletics in general just shut down. Return to academic endeavors for a year or two and completely reorganize athletics at the college level.

There was a time I supported some of what the players want and still do but it is getting out of hand.

For some reason, it wasn’t popping up. All I could see was the Twitter symbol. What’s the penalty, reading all the first page threads in THFSG?

Nah, just thought you might like the context of all the posts that followed it. That way you realize all the posts were made with that knowledge already. That's all; no ulterior motives.

Then I guess we will find different players whom want to be there actually.

Think that through for a minute; schollies are guaranteed, so you're proposing 2 new whole or partial teams, one playing and one not?

Schollies are only guaranteed if you are in good standing with the school and team, meaning you can't be cut due to performance. I would consider threatening to opt out of playing due to supporting the unity movement to be detrimental to the team and you would not be in good standing.

They can fake it and say it’s Covid for this year, but next year they’d be cut for sure. You can’t quit the team and expect to keep getting your scholarship and football benefits.

No, I mean UF has already guaranteed them specifically, recently, if players choose to sit out due to covid.

Ok thought we were discussing WSU. I know what UF has done but I can't see that applying to a player who specifically says they are opting out for the unity movement.

If every single P5 player sat out this year then we can just replace them with walk ons. We aren’t watching because it’s the best vs the best (that’s the NFL), we are watching because it’s the University of Florida. If we have a bunch of walk ons and so does Georgia....then let’s battle.

They could but I would think that the team would want documentation like WSU player that has the sickle cell trait if they are claiming to be high risk. Every school is probably giving a wide birth on excuses though. Strickland has already granted any opt out a schollie so saying covid works at UF.

I just don't think it makes much of a difference; Covid is 1 of the legit claims/concerns... might or might not be the only one. And how do you determine who's being honest about why they're sitting out? Pretty complicated set of problems; and likely to be further complicated by litigation.

That has always been my stance and mantra; but even if you could replace a whole team, and you can't, and even if you could find enough players to risk their health for nothing, the product would be so bad, nobody would watch it, even as sports-starved as we are.

I would think if the kids are sitting out to support the rebellion out on the left coast they would proudly say so and not hide behind a fake excuse

Don't think they care about coasts; and as I said, their reason/s for supporting this probably vary from 1 guy to the next. Some of the stuff is obviously absurd or impractical; but with enough support they could move on some of that.
