Tonight I am grilling thick pork chops on the KJ. We have lots of really good sauerkraut (Bubbies on BOGO!) to go with it. I am also doing a spinach sauté.

Well, @scooterp has flung a craven on us. Tonight we are having a fresh pot of chili over white rice covered with Sargento fine shredded sharp cheddar cheese.

That’s right—chili cheese dogs for lunch tomorrow!

Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine are our choices tonight.

Today I mowed the lawn in the hot afternoon sun. I was a bit scared to do it because I had pulled a lower back muscle a few weeks ago digging and pulling up some saplings causing sciatica. I have had sciatica due to a muscle spasm impinging the nerve before as opposed to a spine injury causing it and it sucks and takes a long time to get better. It got a lot worse last time I mowed the lawn. I did have a therapeutic massage that helped a lot but didn't totally fix things but I am on the mend.

Anyway after a morning of walking my dog (only up to 2/3 of our usual distance with my leg issue), watching the Vuelta (Tour of Spain) bike race, and mowing the lawn (half an acre with a power mower without self propel) I was ready to rest. Tonight is some kind of take-out and my youngest son's choice. Either Cuban food from Mia Apa, gyros from Gyros Plus or Thai food from Wah-Ha-Ha.

Best of luck with your back/sciatica issues. I’ve always said that back trouble is something I wouldn’t even wish on someone I didn’t like….

Tonight it’s clean the refrigerator out—leftovers it is.

Tumbler of Elijah Craig for me, Moscow Mule for Ms. Jan.

Pot of sauce coming to the end of the 3rd hour. Meatballs & Italian sausage already done. Serving over thin spaghetti, with garlic bread and salad.

Opened a bottle of Merlot earlier (4oz into the sauce) …a glass for dinner. A couple of cool Modelos in the fridge for the game later.

I used to have worse lower back muscle problems when I still played basketball. Working hard in the paint is hard on the lower back. I remember seeing Larry Bird laying down on the court trying to stretch his back out.

Lucky for me I have never had spinal issues. It has always been muscle sprains and spasms.

Yesterday I made "hot" Thai noodles with peanuts. The noodles were actually from Vietnam from my local Asian store.

Yesterday I didn't have the luxury of freezing something before garbage day. There was a dead possum in the yard. Had to dig a pretty big hole for it.

Tonight is what I call boring tacos (Tex-Mex hard shell style) but also making twenty jalapeno poppers and margaritas (way fewer than 20) for the dinner beverage.

Blackberries do really well in Florida. And in the right locations blueberries as well. I hear that there are some wild strawberries near Tally but not something I think about in Florida. I used to get them when I lived way up north. Really small and very tart.

Wild raspberries were common in the upper Midwest and really tasty.

Yes they do very well in Florida. You’ve got the best strawberries in Florida right up the road from you there in Starke. We used to buy them by the flat the 11 years I worked out of the Lake City District. Ms. Jan makes mighty good strawberry freezer jam and strawberry refrigerator pies from them.
